Funny story, this one. I'll keep it short. Around mid 80's, Heard an awesome song on the radio. Said I gotta hear these guys. Group was the Fall. In a used cd store a few days later, aha thats that band I wanted to hear more of. Need I say more. The Call is not even close to the Fall. Not sure if this album reflects their entire catalogue. If so, not interested. One great song of the title track, which of course, there is no clip for. Turns out this would be their last album for 7 years. They came back for one more and it bombed. They had plenty of respect from their peers, as they were one of Gabriels favorites and Bono does a guest spot here on the leadoff track, also no clip. In fact, only 1 clip available. First time that's happened in awhile. Summing up, just not much here that grabbed me after that title track. Don't see where the album ever charted.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Joe's best selling album I believe and rightfully so. Although Look Sharp remains my favorite, this one gives that a run. And a completely different direction with more jazz leanings here which Joe had een exploring. A melding of that with commercial leanings was the right recipe. Joe and Elvis were taking punk to new levels with great success. Although not really much punk here, to be able to retain that image while releasing this mixture of styles is quite a feat and shows that Joe was much deeper than that. This went to #4 on the U.S. charts and #3 in the U.K. with the single of Steppin Out at #6 U.S. and a follow up of Breaking Us In Two at #18.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Target

Best Track - A Slow Song

Music has charms they say
But in some people's hands
It becomes a savage beast
Can't they control it
Why don't they hold it back

You see my friend and me
Don't have an easy day
And at night we dance not fight
And we need the energy
If not the sympathy

But i'm brutalized by bass
And terrorized by treble
I'm open to change my mood but
I always get caught in the middle

And i get tired of dj's
Why's it always what he plays
I'm gonna push right through
I'm gonna tell him too
Tell him to
Play us
Play us a slow song

It's late - i'm winding down
Am i the only one
To want a strong and silent sound
To pick me up and undress me
Lay me down and caress me

I feel you touch my hand
And whisper in my ear
Ask me how i'm feeling now
And i want to get near you
But i can't even hear you

But this is a fine romance
If we have to be so demanding
We need just one more dance to
Leave here with an understanding

And i get tired of dj's
Why's it always what he plays
I'm gonna push right through
I'm gonna tell him too
Tell him to
Play us
Play us a slow song

Swedish band formed in 1992 with their third album. It would be their major label debut in the states and achieved gold status with the single Lovefool, which must be why I bought this. That's the only really good track on here for me. Some of the remaining tracks are ok and the rest duds. Looks like they are still together, but I haven't heard anything since this and nothing has achieved any major sales success. The cover of Sabbaths Iron Man was out of left field and really bad too. The album went to #35 on the U.S. charts, doing better in the U.K. at #18.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Iron Man

Best Track - Lovefool

Dear, I fear we're facing a problem
You love me no longer, I know
And maybe there is nothing
That I can do to make you do
Mama tells me I shouldn't bother
That I ought to stick to another man
A man that surely deserves me
But I think you do!

So I cry, I pray and I beg

Love me love me
Say that you love me
Fool me fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you...

Lately I have desperately pondered,
Spent my nights awake and I wonder
What I could have done in another way
To make you stay
Reason will not lead to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don't care if you really care
As long as you don't go

So I cry, I pray, and I beg

Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Fool me, fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me, love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
So I cry, and I pray for you to
Love me, love me
Say that you love me
Leave me, leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you...

Anything but you...

Love me, love me (Say that you love me)
Fool me, fool me (Go on and fool me)
Love me, love me (I know that you need me)
I can't care 'bout anything but you..

New release from Felice Brothers off-shoot.

Rootsy Americana that bears more than a passing resemblance to some of CSNY's material.

Good.

Borrowed from Robbie. This has been mentioned on here before, so I'm a bit behind the curve.

I have a lot of time for Nick Cave, but ignored their first outing. Was looking forward to this, but found it a bit underwhelming.

I guess I'm more of a fan of his mellower work. Will give it another try before consigning to the ignore pile.
