What Are You Listening To?
Music Head Wrote:Tiggi----that's twice you've surprised me.
First with the Moodies and now the Kinks.

So many gaps to fill...

You forget I'm younger than you by some margin !!

Unsurprisingly occupies the same territory as Berlin-era Bowie, and Talking Heads, both artists with whom he was collaborating around the time of this 1977 release.

The first half consists of quirky Pop-Rock songs, whilst the latter part is more chilled and instrumental.

Slightly left-of-centre, and very good for that...

Eno is an influential musical genius who is probably under-appreciated, and is another major artist under-represented in my collection.

I have that Street Survivors album with the original cover of the flames.
They redid the pic for all subsequent releases

i went to a couple of 'second hand' record shops today after work....and guess what?....i found Street Survivors with the 'flames', cover in pretty good condition for $20 so i bought it,label isnt worn either, should play ok at that price.
i'll play it over the next couple of days/evenings and let you know what i think of it.

Good compilation of most of the band's decent singles, plus a couple of Dave Davies' solo releases.

Not sure of the chronology, but I've always felt that Ray Davies stole extensively from The Beatles in the early years. Having said that, once he found his song-writing feet, at his best he could hold his place amongst the very best of UK artists.

The Kinks are sorely under-represented in my collection (only have this comp). This needs to be rectified...

The Kinks are one of the most underrated bands in British history. Amazingly, they were actually active until 1996. Most of their material is pretty strong, even their 80s stuff ('Come Dancing') Heres one of their obscure tracks from the 80s.

I've read about them extensively over the years, but somehow never got round to listening to them in any depth. My musical universe is riddled with gaping holes, although I do tend to spread the net awful wide...

To confess, I actually only own one compilation album as well . Think its a bit more extensive than the one youve got, its a double disc with about 20 odd tracks on each side. Their later studio albums look interesting, been meaning to check them out. They even did an album in the 90s.

One of the few tracks I really like from the 'Eliminator' album. Just found this gem on youtube. It's a live performance from the legendary show 'The Tube' which consequently was on TV before I was even born .

ive got a couple of compilations on vinyl, also their 'waterloo sunset' album from 1966 on vinyl...which is brilliant, i have their 'state of mind' album on cassette somewhere from the early 1980s which is pish. so i too need to get some more Kinks music in my collection.

'The Tube' was a pretty good show in its day, only saw a couple of dozen shows at the time because i was on holiday in England at the time.
'Later...with Jools' is the best music programme i have ever seen.

agree with the Jools comment.
Best live music show on over here.
Actually it's probably the worst too, since it's the only one I know of.

i like it because you get a fantasic mix of guests on one episode, i think Ian Dury on there just weeks before he died was the saddest moment, he looked so ill, but still got up and performed after the interview.
just for trivia sake...Nick Cave and Paul Weller have appeared on Jools more than any other artist.
