Southern Rock, if they need labelling...
They may be revivalists, but every time I hear something from this band They go up in my estimation. It's not what they play, but the way they play together that impresses.
Great band, great album.

Rock "classic" from 1977.
This is a meticulously crafted double album, and is quite enjoyable, but realistically there's not a great deal of substance here.
Songs, of love, loss, cities, celestial bodies, & weather !?
Definitely not their best, although it sold by the warehouse-load...

i saw an interview with Jeff Lynne recently and he was saying he would get a structure of five or six chords at the beginning of a recording session and he'd just juggle them around and create a dozen songs out of it(an entire album) then he would make up lyrics as he went along, hey presto!...an album complete!...none of this taking six months rubbish to write a song. now that is simplicity at its best.
he also said the only time he sat down and crafted an album was 1981 'time'(a concept album) which was the end of ELO.
in other words, what you said about 'lack of substance' Tiggi, is correct...JL confirms it.
who cares...Messers Lynne and company made some fine songs

JIM JONES REVUE "burning your house down" 2010
listened to this on a co-workers ipod at work today.
most people nowadays will call this 'punk' or some other stupid name, but it is 'rock n roll'!!!
theres a lot of resemblances to Little Richard/Jerry Lee, but with a heavier guitar sound.
take a look at the links and comment

to work entering an album review for 45 minutes and lose everything you've done is very f**cking frustrating.
