TAME IMPALA "innerspeaker" 2010.

this is the debut album from trio from Perth, Western Australia, one of the world’s most secluded cities. Logical because Innerspeaker is a record half a world away from the kind of artistic pretense that regularly infects bands of Tame Impala’s age and relative inexperience.
With the assistance of Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev producer Dave Fridmann they’ve constructed a sound big enough to park aeroplanes in, and every idea on here is attacked with virtuosic brio and an open mind. Essentially a psychedelic jam suite perfectly encapsulating Parker’s own summation of the genre as “kind of emotive and childlike and all at the same time”, Innerspeaker has none of the predictable trappings of a modern-day psych record and liquid ambience aplenty.
First track It Is Not Meant To Be rides in on a wave of third-eye guitar jangle and magic carpet bass, the band playing with the sort of empathic intelligence that’s made Dungen a wonder of the retro-rocking world. Then they coax wicked sounds from their guitars on Desire Be Desire Go, which again does hippie with none of the whimsy and all of the danger. Parker’s vocals, meanwhile, sound like the dreamy "#9 Dream" & "mind games" era of Lennons early solo material
That isn’t to say Innerspeaker is completely devoid of contemporary sounds – Alter Ego marries the colours-run, shoegazey texture of an Atlas Sound cut with racing, druggy beats. And Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind? has a fine Stereolab-esque groove which evokes, strangely enough, Bradford Cox’s collaboration with the ‘Lab’s own Laetitia Sadier, Quick Canal. Elsewhere, Bold Arrow of Time is one of the few moments on the record to explicitly tap the psychedelic blues root – Cream would be an obvious reference point here, but we’ll go instead with the expansiveness of the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
The band recently opened for MGMT in the US. But while they undoubtedly remain more of a boutique concern than Messrs VanWyngarden and Goldwasser, with Innerspeaker Tame Impala display an intuitive feel for psychedelia’s insurgent streak and joy in non-conformity that’s far in excess of their peers.

Brilliant 80s track which John Peel championed at the time. Perhaps Mr.Nelson's biggest hit solo wise?

ELVIS PRESLEY 'having fun with elvis on stage' 1974.

this is without a doubt the worst album i have in my collection. there is no music on it just Elvis waffling on about crap via snippets from various concerts in 1974. he tries to be funny as he tries to remember if he was born in Texas or Tennessee, he is incoherant at times, and slurs his speech in others, it is an embarrassment to the memory of 'the knig' for RCA to have released this...and they did it while he was still alive...it seems that they and Col.Parker would do anything to earn money from the Presley name.
i cant remember when i bought this vinyl album, probably just after he died i guess.
the album reached #9 on the US country chart and #130 on the billboard chart.
i cant rate snippets of comments so its just the album this time

rating: 1.0

the '1' is for the pictures on the cover, the album contents get a big fat '0'

Aussies with some spunk. Formed in 1981 in Sydney, the group has gone through numerous changes, but still at it, with an album out in 2010. Had no idea they were still a group, as the last I remember is the album after this one. Vocalist Dave Faulkner is the only member that has been there for the long run. This is their third album and came out a little lower than I expected. Guess it didn't live up to Mars for me. Label was trying to put forth a more serious group. New producer Mark Opitz, who had done the trick for AC/DC and INXS. The Bangles show up on backing vocals on Good Times. With only that and my fav of Come On being the only great tracks, and four failing to even make the grade, this just barely passed. The album only reached #120 here in the states. I'm sure it fared much better in the homeland where the single of What's My Scene reached #3.

Worst Track - Where Nowhere Is

Best Track - Come On

Oh, come on,
I've been hanging out,
Had some nagging doubts,
But that was until now.
Oh, come on,
You are all I want.
All I want.
How could I hold out for long?

Oh, come on,
Who cares what people say?
Cause we can sleep all day,
Tonight won't keep away.
Let's just play.
Oh, come on,
How can we be wrong?
We're not wrong
When we both feel so strong.
We're so strong, we're so strong
Come on.

Come on,
The last train's almost gone.
Really gone!
Let's enjoy the ride we're on.
So come on,
We can take our time -
We can walk the line, after all.

So come on,
Cause it's you I love.
When push comes to shove
You're more than enough.
You're more than enough.
Come on.

THE FINN BROTHERS "FINN" 1995.

although Neil and Tim Finn had worked together in Split Enz and on Crowded House album "Woodface" this was their first album together as a duo, this is a classy album filled with songs that grow on you over time. between them, the Finn brothers played all instruments, wrote all the tracks and produced the album. this was supposed to be a crowded house album but it didnt turn out that way, anyway it works well. the best track on the album is the Neil penned piano ballad 'last day of june' which is very McCartney-esque lyrically and musically. the harmonies between the two brothers are magnificent and without a doubt are up there with Simon & Garfunkel and Lennon/McCartney. as for the songwriting, the Finn Brothers, either together or alone are on par with the famous Beatle duo. Any album by these guys are worth pursuing, as they ooze quality with everything they do.

Another group I was sure was in the history books by now only to find out otherwise. No way to keep up. Formed in 1980 in Sydney, this would be their eighth album. I believe I have one more on vinyl (probably Starfish). I used to have others on cd. They were stolen along with about 200 others. I don't wanna go there. Although a decent album, I don't think this one lives up to previous efforts. It made it to #66 in the U.S. with singles of Metropolis and You're Still Beautiful.

Worst Track - Russian Autumn Heart

Best Track - Metropolis

There'll never be another quite like you
I'm so involved with everything you do
Don't say nothing good will ever come of this
Don't say the damage is worse than it is

Back in Metropolis, circuses and elephants
Where the oranges grew
Back in Metropolis nothing can ever topple us
When I'm standing with you

You stare down at some crowd from your trapeze
And when you fell they fell down on their knees
And when you broke they scrambled for a piece
And when you spoke I felt their anger freeze

Back in Metropolis, circuses and elephants
Where the oranges grew
Back in Metropolis nothing can ever topple us
When I'm standing with you
Back in Metropolis talk about a holocaust
And then visit the zoo
Back in Metropolis the weather is ridiculous
What's it all leading to
And it's only a day away
We could leave tonight
You could sleep along the way
Dream in black and white

The Church werent really that popular here, had more of a cult following with the 'student' 'artsy' types. i only have their debut album somewhere and a greatest hits, very underrated band who were before their time, nick cave also springs to mind as being the same.
im sure they are still recording, thought i read somewhere a while ago that they were releasing an album of new material, not sure if its out or coming out.

sorry you've had 200cds stolen, i had half a dozen stolen out of my car a few years back...and i was pissed over that!
