My only Beatles album I can say I don't like. But then, is it really a Beatles album? Side 2 being all George Martin music from the film, not really. But even side 1, which is all Beatles, the only standout for me is All You Need Is Love, which is also on Magical Mystery Tour. This is 1 of 2 Beatles albums I have yet to purchase on cd, and I most likely won't. At this stage of my life, I'm not one of those that has to have all of an artist just beause of who it is. I probably felt different back when this was released. Of the other Beatles songs here, even though the title track is quite popular, I have never loved anything with Ringo taking over, and I've always thought Only A Northern Song was dreadful. Sorry fans. The instrumental tracks on side 2, pleasant enough as background music, but nothing I would care enough to hear again.
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM
Worst Track - any side 2
Best Track - All You Need Is Love
Love, Love, Love.
Love, Love, Love.
Love, Love, Love.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.
It's easy.
Nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time.
It's easy.
All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.
All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.
Nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.
All you need is love.
All you need is love.
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need.
All you need is love (All together, now!)
All you need is love. (Everybody!)
All you need is love, love.
Love is all you need (love is all you need)
(love is all you need) (love is all you need)
(love is all you need) Yesterday (love is all you need)
(love is all you need) (love is all you need)
Yee-hai!
Oh yeah!
love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, oh yeah oh hell yea! love is all you need love is all you need love is all you need.

One of the staples of live Grateful Dead shows in the early years was the song Dark Star.
It was used as a springboard for their exploratory jams, and became a firm Deadhead favourite. Unfortunately, in their latter years they rationed its' performance pretty heavily.
This 2 disc set (originally released as two separate albums, Transitive Axis, & Mirror Ashes) comprises nothing else but music from live recordings of Dark Star. Although all the music is from the Dead (hence the wordplay title), the credit goes to John Oswald whose input was to trawl through some 40 hours of live recordings, and to construct this work in whichever way he saw fit.
Material from right through the band's career has been used, with sections varying from less than a second to several minutes in length. The different performances are woven together, with some running backwards, some at altered speeds, some treated with echo effects, and numerous other techniques used to create a Dark Star sound collage.
For the most part, this sounds like fairly standard Dead jamming, but it does go seriously weird on the second disc, and starts to sound like some cosmic soundtrack. It's quite possible that this section has been lifted as was from a live performance, since the Dead weren't averse to a bit of weird, on occasion.
I really enjoyed it, but this is for serious Deadheads only.
Allmusic 3/5 & 4/5 stars.

QUEEN "the game" 1980, vinyl. #1 US, #1 UK, #11 Aust.
Freddie Mercury is/was the most flambouyant rock star i have ever seen, the 'stage' was his when he was on it and he thrived on the adoration, he lived his life to full excess on and off the stage.
now, i dont call myself a "queen" fan, but i do have "news of the world", "a day at the races", "a night at the opera" this one and "flash gordon-soundtrack" and a host of singles, mainly from the eighties.
the album is a link between their 'rock' past and their synthesized 1980s material, i dont think Freddie Mercury's vocals ever sounded as good as they do on this album, and this is the album i would encourage prospective fans to listen to first.
this, IMO is the only 'complete' album the band ever made as every track is a cracker, from the pure rock of "rock it, "play the game", "coming soon" and "dragon attack" to the more quieter moments of "save me" and "sail away sweet sister". through the sports arena anthem "another on bites the dust", the rockabilly "crazy little thing...", the psuedo Beatles sounding "need your loving tonight" and the quirky "dont try suicide".
Brian May's guitar playing is brilliant as usual, Freddie's vocals soar to dizzy heights and quiet lows.
the only reason "another one bites the dust" is the worst song on the album is because im sick of hearing it everytime there is a sports telecast on tv, and it still gets overkill on the radio with "crazy little thing called love", so they only get ** a piece, sorry!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Had forgotten I even had this album. And that's the fun of random record selection. I have every album that these tracks are pulled from, when they were on an album so it's rare that I would also have a best of set unless it's on cd. Sure don't regret this purchase though as it also scored much higher than I think any of the individual albums would. Nice to have these classics all on one disc. I've always thought Mac/Wings was more of a singles band except for maybe Band On The Run. I probably bought this for Live And Let Die and Mull Of Kintyre which are not on an album and two great songs. The latter is my favorite and when those bagpipes kick in, it sends chills. The album peaked at #5 U.K., #8 Aus. and a weak #29 U.S. Stupid yankees. A pretty cool poster came in this record. Pic of Paul, Linda and Denny on one side and some stupid parrots sitting on a piano looking out a window on the other. Betcha can't get that in a cd. Some great clips here.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM
Worst Track - Junior's Farm
Best Track - Mull Of Kintyre
Mull Of Kintyre
Oh Mist Rolling In From The Sea,
My Desire Is Always To Be Here
Oh Mull Of Kintyre
Far Have I Traveled And Much Have I Seen
Dark Distant Mountains With Valleys Of Green.
Past Painted Deserts The Sunset's On Fire
As He Carries Me Home To The Mull Of Kintyre.
Mull Of Kintyre
Oh Mist Rolling In From The Sea,
My Desire Is Always To Be Here
Oh Mull Of Kintyre
Sweep Through the Heather Like Deer In The Glen
Carry Me Back To The Days I Knew Then.
Nights When We Sang Like A Heavenly Choir
Of The Life And The Time Of The Mull Of Kintyre.
Mull Of Kintyre
Oh Mist Rolling In From The Sea,
My Desire Is Always To Be Here
Oh Mull Of Kintyre
Smiles in the sunshine
And tears in the rain
Still take me back to where my memories remain
Flickering embers growing higher and higher
As they carry me back to the Mull of Kintyre
Mull Of Kintyre
Oh Mist Rolling In From The Sea,
My Desire Is Always To Be Here
Oh Mull Of Kintyre
Mull Of Kintyre
Oh Mist Rolling In From The Sea,
My Desire Is Always To Be Here

WINGS "london town" 1978. cd/vinyl #4UK, #2US, #3Aust
this is Macca's 8th studio album since the breakup of The Beatles.
im a bit shocked though, i thought the rating would come out higher than it has as i love this album.
overall, it is a nice easy listening album with plenty of slow songs, ballads, acoustic and a couple of folky type tracks...there are also several 'rocky' type tunes.
the album contains the worldwide smash hit "with a little luck",elsewhere there is the title track which is slightly reminiscent of the Beatles tune Penny Lane, both in melody and character/place references. "girlfriend" was originally written for Michael Jackson in 1977, however since he didnt record it then, Macca did it himself...only to have MJ record it and put it on "off the wall" album a year later.
"famous groupies" is one of those terrible whimsical/nonsense tracks that Macca has a habit of writing...like "yellow submarine", "maxwells silver hammer" and "octopus' garden",that said, he has a knack of turning rubbish into gold.
Denny Laine sings two of the songs here, both folky in nature, "deliver your children" and "children, children", both of which are lovely folky type tunes with brilliant harmonies by Macca. "name and address" is a nice bluesy boogie with Paul trying his best to immitate Elvis Presley.
there are five great tracks here, and the rest is consistantly good.
the cd version contains a bonus track in "girlschool", which was part of a "double-A" side single in UK and Aust.
I LOVE THIS ONE...but the rating doesnt show that
