What Are You Listening To?
Jerome Wrote:Today it's 'Pulse' the double Floyd live CD. My partner was muttering in the background about 'what crap are you playing this time'. I am pleased to announce she is now available on eBAY. Going cheap! Oh and I turned the volume up to 10 to drown out any further comments. Isn't technology wonderful!

....i do believe your partner and i would get along just fine!!

First volume of The Vault Box Set, on 2-discs & released in 1991.

This was the first of their live archive releases, which spawned several different series of live Dead. It would take another 16 years before the third and final volume saw light of day.

Recorded in SF in 1975, whilst they were promoting Blues For Allah. Very high quality recording, and the music's not shabby, either. Every strand of indigenous American music is put through the Grateful Dead shredder to often brilliant effect. There's a truly lovely version of It Must Have Been The Roses on here (of which there isn't a decent video clip, otherwise I'd have posted one...).

AllMusic 3/5 stars (Harrumph !!).

In 1968, Apple set up its offices and its businesses; There were two that were of interest to this album: Apple publishing and Apple records. During it’s time in the business world Apple received hundreds of demo recordings, some of which were from people who would become eminent in their field. Now it has long been an interesting question as to what happened to all those tapes etc.

RPM records is a company who specialize in trying to find, and release things that other companies cannot manage. Several years ago , they began to address this question and finally managed to make some headway …………clearly there are some copy write issues with famous people that are complex and will take years to sort out , but this issue take some of the easier material which came into Apple publishing and makes it available on CD……………….

The first of these CD’s is called 94 Baker Street and contains some of the demos and tracks which were submitted to Apple publishing.

The roster is varied but some of the highlights include unreleased demos by The Iveys who later became Badfinger, tracks by Grapefuit, Focal Point, The Misunderstood, John Fitch and The Associates and Paintbox.

From this one gets a fascinating glimpse into the sort of music flowing through Apple in the early days and the range of talent that was there…………..IN addition some of the tracks on this album have Beatle involvement.

There is a second volume called “ An Apple A Day” which goes into more depth that I will be tracking down in the future.:wink:Cool

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

On the laptop.

Their last collaboration, from 1982.

Of their work as hubby & wife I only have a compilation which features them both solo, and together.

RT never disappoints as a songwriter (or singer, or guitarist), so it's no surprise that this is a good collection of songs which are marginally on the Rock side of the Folk-Rock divide. The Buy List gets just that little bit longer...

This 10 CD series from Panda has the complete remaining recordings of The Beatles At The BBC , Not all tracks are pristine but the majority came from FM broadcasts and were recorded on Domestic equipment ..............It is fascinating to hear the complete shows or parts the Beatles were in and to see how good a band they were when recording live or near live.
