![]() CCR are one of the glaring gaps in my collection. Interest was piqued by the discussion between Crazyman & MH regarding Crazy's recent box set purchase. Then, coming home from a training course, Proud Mary came on the radio. Decision made... For me, this is quality Blues Rock. There's quite a difference between what the Brit bands were doing in the same field and this approach. CCR play a looser, more rootsy music, and it's hard to resist. Plus there's Fogerty's growl. AllMusic 4+/5 stars.

nice one Tiggi, you cant go wrong with any of CCR's albums, all seven of them range from very good to brilliant.
did you manage to find the 'boxset' of all seven albums or just that one?

^ That's just a first purchase. I did spot the box for £25, and thought it was good value, but will probably pick from their output list.
Thanks for the heads-up, man.

![]() 1999 release where Macca goes back to his roots and covers some fave songs from his teenage years (plus introduces a couple of originals). I liked Lennon's Rock & Roll album, so thought I'd give this one a go. The studio rules were apparently that the band had only 15 or 20 minutes to rehearse the songs, and that a minimum number of takes were used. Thus the material sounds raw, and does indeed have some commendable spontaneity about it. Not a knock-out, but given that this made about a year after Linda's death, it has a sense of fun & enjoyment. The guitarist's rubbish, though... AllMusic 4/5 stars.

im sure that "run devil run" will grow on you Tiggi, maybe not the the extent of Lennon's "rock n roll" album though.

![]() THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP "the best of..." vinyl,cd. my mum was a "mod" back in the day, had all the Mod records...kinks, small faces, who, georgie fame along with these guys etc...., and i spent a lot of my early teenage days listening to them, when i left home i had to buy all of the above as she wouldnt let me take them with me!!!!!! i got this one on vinyl and in 1992 i got the cd release of it...it sounds better on vinyl as the cd pressing wasnt remastered. anyway, SD had several hits in the UK and a couple in the US between 65-67. the group were fronted by a young 16 year old Stevie (steve) winwood who had a voice rich in the blues and R&B way beyond his years, along with Small Faces, they used the Hammond Organ to give them a unique sound on record, and as my mum says, they both really only enjoyed a 'cult following' of hard core Mods, Winwood left the band in 1967 to form Traffic then went on to have a reasonably successful yet spazmodic solo career, i much prefer these songs to anything he released later on. Spencer Davis still tours the band around Europe, allbeit with non original members. one of their lesser known hits is my pick of the bunch here, the haunting piano ballad "every little bit hurts". ![]() ERIC CLAPTON "complete clapton" 2007, cd. #2 UK #14 US #43 AU disc 1: one of the great things about music is that artists you dismissed as rubbish in the past can occasionally come back, bite you on your backside and say "hello, im here!"....and thats pretty much my relationship with EC, i could never stand him or his music then four years ago i had the opportunity to see him live and he litterally blew me off my chair with the quality of his guitar playing, the band he used, the lyrics and on on cool on stage prescence, wouldnt say im hooked on him but it gave me a new perspective to work with so i bought this double set of a career spanning songs and thanks to private messaging a couple of members here at MD for advice i now have a starting point for some of his studio/live albums. this, the first disc spans his Cream,Blind Faith,Derek & The Dominoes and his solo career up to the early 1980s, its a great overall picture of rock, blues, psychadelia and ballads by old 'slow hand'. this disc really shows the quality of tracks EC is best known for and its just grown on me considerably, the only problem i have with it is that i feel his studio recordings lack the real 'oomph' of his raw live versions, guess the same can be said for all great musicians.
