Third album from one of my favorite 60's bands. My love of music had been interupted by a trip to Korea, courtesy of Uncle Sam. Not much new music available there at the time, but I did manage to pick this up. I remember it so well that I recall picking up Electric Ladyland at the same time. A little hash (not corned beef) enhanced the experience. This album lives up to the previous two for me, although I was never crazy about the big hit, their second #1 single of Hello I Love You. Favorite was always The Unknown Soldier. Nothing bad on here, loving four other tracks as well. The album was the groups first #1 here, and also their first hit in the U.K. coming in at #16. Not sure why, but the title of the album was a song that would not appear until the album Morrison Hotel.

PAUL McCARTNEY "driving rain" 2001,cd. #46 UK, #26 US.

from memory Macca's worst chart performing album of his entire career which i guess isnt too bad after 49yrs in the game.
i thought this one might have scored a bit higher in my rating as i do enjoy this one.
Macca's first release after the passing of his long standing wife Linda from cancer.
this one is not your happy,poppy Macca,maybe that accounted for the slump in sales, more a release for all his grieving and sadness he must have experienced in the recent past. the majority of the songs deal with this pain and hurt, the last few turn a full 180degrees to express his love to girlfriend Heather Mills including his first love song for her, "your loving flame", the best track here though is the beautiful ballad "magic" in which he recalls his forst meeting with Linda. two instrumentals on this on, "heather" is a fine piano based tune, the other, "riding into jaipur" is real bad!, only to be surpassed by the even worse 10 minute shambles "rinse the raindrops".
the final track "freedom" was written at the eleventh hour of the recording process as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the abhorent 9/11 attacks in the US...its not a great song,infact its simply aweful and simplistic, but it does get two stars for the emotions attached to its meaning.

Not much to say about these Aussies. No album cover that I can find on about a 30 minute surf. That's my limit. Hell, I won't even look for my dog for over 30 minutes. Feel free to post the cover if you can find it. Consists of a drawing of one of those old time paddle-boats. Not a bad album if you like the soft rock sound. Very nice CSN type harmonies when they choose to use them. A three man group, that trade off lead vocals with Russ Johnson getting the nod as the best, followed by Graeham Goble, then John Mower. Interesting to note the band evolved into the Little River Band. Some of this does have that feel. This album made the Aus charts at #21, with a single of Kings Of The World at #7.

Third album from CS, from 1972.

Singer-songwriterish songs with some stellar backing musicians including Lowell George, Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voorman, Ray Cooper, Bobby Keys, Jim Keltner, and Andy Newmark, along with some backing vox courtesy of the McCartneys, Mick Jagger, Doris Troy, Bonnie Bramlett, and then-hubby James Taylor (for the benefit of the pedantic, I know they were married at around the time this was released, but don't know which came first).

There are a handful of songs that made a big impression on me when I used to listen to BBC Radio's Sunday night top 40 countdown in the kitchen in the early '70s, and You're so Vain is one of them. Great song.

The quality of the songs/playing/singing is uniformly high and this is a fine example of this sort of album.

Blue-collar anthems that sound designed to be played in big venues. This one comes from the middle of a period when Brooce could do no wrong, and this is justifiably regarded as a classic album.

Hey Tiggi, while I agree with what you say about this album, I think that 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' is really an incredible album. Totally underrated and largely ignored by the press. This is where the Boss steps outside of himself and delivers a blistering (albeit quiet) summary of the life and times of those living on the borderline. It's chilling, beautiful and cuts to the bone. One of the very few times that I give an album 10/10. (Apart from every Pink Floyd album of course!!!! That goes without saying.) A musical equivalent of 'The Catcher in the Rye' or 'The Grapes of Wrath'. Camel's 'Dust and Dreams' has the same effect. Maybe I need therapy......

Agreed, TGOTJ is a great piece of work. I like his quiter works, and Nebraska is a particular fave of mine.

I tend to take ages to get really familiar with albums, and TGOTJ will definitely benefit from more listenings chez Tiggi.

its a big favourite of mine also Tiggi, The Boss sure can tell a story and make you feel something for the characters

LOVE Nebraska! Especially 'Atlantic City' or whatever it's called. Bought the album purely based on the artwork on the sleeve. Was pleasantly surprised by the contents. Most of it was recorded on a simple home/demo setup - no fancy production studios and crap. Just him and a bit of basic recording equipment.
