Do you listen to music mostly with headphones ?
#1
Just to satisfy my own noseyness(curiosity)...lol....do you listen to music mostly with headphones or without ?

I try to use headphones because in my opinion you miss or lose a significant part of the music without them. Maybe certain music doesn't have to be played on headphones and should be played LOUD without HPs !!!!

Then again to each his own and it's definitely not a safe way to go if it's too loud ! A lot of the time we can't use headphones...in the car,at work for the most part, talking to the wife..lol, etc...

I heard a radio DJ state one day that a musician he knew told him that music was not intended to be listened to on headphones. I strongly disagree ! I think the DJ was trying to keep radio alive !

I listen to music without headphones as much as possible. For too many years I lived in small apartments with no sound-proofing and being a night owl I listened to most of my music when others would be sleeping or getting ready to sleep. Not likely they would be happy that I was in the mood to listen to several albums every night. Headphones were my only option if I wanted to hear the music above the whisper setting.

Now that I am not living in a tiny apartment I listen to music without headphones as much as possible. It lets me be freer to do other things that are out of reach of the headhone cord. I can also keep tabs on the life that is going on around me.

When I am figuring out a difficult part of a song I'll put on the headphones when I need to eliminate other sounds. I also use them when things are really hectic and I can't hear myself think let alone a song.

I feel that there are two listening experiences

Many mixes are intended to be played back in Stereo across two speakers in a room( We can argue Mono ,5.1 etc ) but in essence that is what it was engineered to do and that was the brief.................

Headphones offer another environment , there is little crosstalk and you ae closer to the sound , little added echo from the room and it's environment..............

Now who is to say which s best ? They are two different beasts and as such produce two differing results :

If one is ale to change between the two freely then fine , if not then it can be a case of "horses for courses"..............If I want a concert I use speakers............if I want a close listening environment it is headphones..................

If I don't ant o disturb others headphones...........................Feeling loud it is speakers !!!!!!!

Detail ................headphones or sitting in the hot spot and focused listening..................
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

When alone, almost always, headphones.
Unless I have some damn guest, where I am forced to share.

I agree totally, Gryph...speakers for certain music and headphones for certain music and certain situations.

I prefer headphones but as I am raising two kids I often have to have my music playing in the background which may be why I'm not getting as much out of it as I used to. I love my iPhone when I'm alone because I wear the headphones and don't have to worry about missing any calls. I get a lot of those from the schools....I have difficult kids lol

I only listen using earphones when the i-Pod's in action, which is only when I'm out in the garden, or flopped out beside a pool when on holiday.

Our main listening is always through speakers, and the volume's set just below the threshold of pain. I like to feel the music, literally.

Not deaf yet...
