What Are You Listening To?

BOBBY PREVITE - The Coalition of the Willing (2006) Classic Rock,Jazz fusion,Avant garde Jazz,Funk Instrumental ...all on eight tracks !

I put this album in this section since it's an entertaining 45+ minutes of various music styles instrumentally. Previte's drums and Charlie Hunter on guitar are standouts. Certainly worth a listen.

I have some gaping holes in my collection Steve, & Traffic are one of them. Haven't even heard JBMD.

The Winwood connection has probably deterred me. Not a great fan of his.

Sounds like I should investigate...

PINK FLOYD "dark side of the moon" 1973, vinyl/cd. #2 UK, #1 US, #2 AU.

this one has sold inexcess of 30million copies worldwide, has one of the most recognisable covers of all time, and seems to enter the album charts in UK/US on a regular basis, current standings are 700+wks US, 400+wks UK....amazing stats!!!
its atmospheric, mood evoking, brilliantly produced....love the added sound effects, the great guitar work and the superb lyrics about mundane, boring everyday things???to just read the lyrics without the music it all sounds depressing and lame, yet add the music and its a very good piece of music.
i honestly didnt expect the rating to come out as high as it does so i guess i love this one by the Floyd!

Brilliant album however I don't listen to it as often as I should because of the "MONEY" track. I think this track was intended to capture the mass musical audience.

Ah, the Doobies. Never one of my favorite bands, but they were always consistent. Don't know of any bad albums, although I'm missing a few. This album put them in that blue-eyed soul category such as Hall & Oates for me. Probably more from Michael McDonalds voice than anything else. Patrick Simmons takes lead vocals on about half of these, but Michaels are much smoother. This album placed more emphasis on keyboards and horns, unlike previous guitar oriented releases. Single of What A Fool Believes is my favorite with 2 other standouts. That single was the bands biggest hit and earned them a grammy as did the album. Both reached #1 on the charts. The title tracks also charted at #14. The instrumental Steamer Lane Breakdown is the only track I don't care for. This would be the last Doobies album long time member Jeff Baxter would appear on. Guest appearances by Nicolette Larson and Michael Jackson is said to appear on several tracks.

Worst Track - Streamer Lane Breakdown

Best Track - What A Fool Believes

He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don't see
Tryin' hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life

She musters a smile
For his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize
It never really was

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As she rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all keeps sending him...

Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there's a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As she rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
There's nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees...
