What Are You Listening To?

The original L.A.M.F. (don't ask !!) album was released in 1977 and suffered from an appalling mix. Thunders himself remixed the original some years later, and this was criticised for being too polished.

This release is a result of a trawl through a huge number of different mixes of the original recordings, picking the best, and remastering. Haven't heard either of the other two versions, but this is a fantastic record !!

The Heartbreakers arose out of the NY Dolls (Thunders & Jerry Nolan were ex-Dolls), and although I love the Dolls' music, this album blasts them off the face of the earth. The sound of the band is near-perfect, with growling guitars, a fine rhythm section, and Punkier music.

Comes with a bonus CD of high quality demos, and alternate takes, and for once the bonus disc is worth the admission price on its' own. Also contains London Boys, the Heartbreakers' response to the Pistols' New York, which dissed the NY Punk scene.

Fabulous album.

On the laptop.

This one's from 2007, and doesn't differ greatly from the last one posted. Decent quality Alt-Americana.

Again, don't think this'll make the Buy List. Maybe it's something to do with laptop listening once more...

Debut album and possibly their best for me. Chrissie had the grrrr going on. Little tough girl. The group had this perfect blend of pop/rock/punk I thought. Nick Lowe dropped the ball on this one. After working with them on the groups first single of the Kinks Stop Your Sobbing, he turned down an offer for production chores on the album. Chris Thomas was fortunate enough to take advantage. The album went straight to #1 on release in the U.K. and #9 in the U.S. With the Brass In Pocket single at #14. Love five tracks on here making it a great album. Best is a tough call with Private Life getting my top spot this listen. The Pretenders had plenty of great music left but this debut wasn't equaled for me. Band was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 2005 and show a release in 2008. Haven't heard it and probably shouldn't. A punk Chrissie now just wouldn't be the same.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Space Invader

Best Track - Private Life

Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me;
Getting tired of your theatrics, your acting is a drag.
It's okay on T.V. 'cause you can turn it off,
But don't try me.
Yes your marriage is a tragedy but it's not my concern.
I'm very superficial I hate anything official.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Your sentimental gestures only bore me to death.
You've made a desperate appeal now save your breath.
Attachment to obligation through guilt and regret shit that's so
wet,
And your sex life complications are not my fascinations.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
You ask me for my advice I say, 'Use the door.'
You're still clinging to somebody you deplore.
And you want to use me for emotional blackmail.
I just feel pity when you lie and contempt when you cry.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.
Private life, private life, leave me out.
Private life, drama baby leave me out.

the Pretenders did make some good singles after this album, but IMO none of their albums equalled this one...a classic piece of rock from the early 1980s!!.....nice overview MH

The Heads' 1985 album.

The weirdness was fairly reined in on this one, at least as far as the music goes. Alternative, certainly, but a fairly Poppy feel is evident throughout. Byrne's lyrics, however, are as strange as usual.

For some reason, I've never been a great fan of this one, but last night's listen makes me wonder why. This is a great album, from a great band.

Who said the '80's were musically barren ??

i-Pod listening this AM in garden.

2008 debut from this L.A. band.

Alt-Americana with some excellent Country tinges. Can't escape the occasional similarity of some of the vocals to Neil Young. This doesn't occur throughout the album, as the band members swap lead vocals quite a lot.

i-Pod listening this AM in the garden.

Kristin's fifth solo album, from 2001.

This is her usual mix of acoustic guitar based Alt-Rock, and cryptic lyrics. It's often hard to know what was in her head when she wrote the songs, but I've always liked trying to unscramble enigmatic songs.

Top album from a top Alt-Rock woman.
