Music for Films
Music for Airports Apollo - Atmospheres & Soundtracks All courtesy of egghead Eno For some this is 'elevator music' - for me it is total escape. (from what I'm not too sure, but escape nevertheless)

![]() This album is titled with the bands name on the cover. If it's good enough for Neil.....Shows as Neils 16th album. Didn't do too well here at #75, nor in the homeland at #42. Didn't know that most of these songs were recorded from two different live concert appearances. This album would be the last of his five with Geffen Records, where he did not have a good relationship. One of Neils worst selling albums, but I can think of many worse. A good mix up here of rockers and ballads, with topics varying as well, politics, love, career. Love four tracks here with one bomb of Too Lonely. Neil's been around long enough to allow a bomb occasionally. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Too Lonely Best Track - Long Walk Home If you see Liberty tell her I will Buy her windows on the hill Laud her flowers on the sill Till they grow higher and higher. If Liberty was a little girl Watching all the flags unfurl Standing at the big parade How would she like us now? We balance the power From hour to hour Giant guns rage It's such a long walk home It's such a long walk home It's such a long walk home. From Vietnam to old Beirut If we are searching for the truth Why do we feel that double-edged blade Cutting through our hand? America, America Where have we gone? It's such a long walk home It's such a long walk home It's such a long walk home. We balance the power From hour to hour Giant guns rage It's such a long walk home It's such a long walk home It's such a long walk home. 1) Mideast Vacation *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPVHE0ip0fk 2) Long Walk Home *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csraH3H5yzQ 3) Around The World ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ4E38IKosU 4) Inca Queen ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNos0A5s0uQ 5) Too Lonely * 6) Prisoners Of Rock 'N' Roll ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1N_Lp6s5uo 7) Cryin' Eyes ** 8) When Your Lonely Heart Breaks *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4p0LfSG0Wo 9) We Never Danced *** 3's - 4 2's - 4 1's - 1 Grade - 2.3

Yes I confess, at times I am a pure egghead (translated - wishy washy cosmic nonsense). But I prefer it when it is combined with more conventional instruments. The problem with ambient music is that someone can record a fart with loads of reverb and echo and let it fade away over period of er, let's say 30 or 40 minutes, and then give it some mystical name or call it opus No 72 or something and no-one would be any the wiser. It does not need a key or a structure or form which allows 'artists' to get away with anything. When it is used as a backdrop to a more familiar/conventional structure it can be very effective. Mr Wakeman comes to mind here. (Think of the abstract keyboard passages on 'Tales from Topographic Oceans').

Rival Sons: Pressure & Time (Release June 2011) All Over the Road Young Love Pressure and Time Only One Get Mine Burn Down Los Angeles Save Me Gypsy Heart White Noise Face of Light Rival Sons: fairly new and mostly unknown but the buzz is that's changing. They are most often compared to Led Zeppelin - even being referred to as "The New Led Zeppelin"; laughable in my opinion. Who can live up to perfection? - but I do hear the influence and they are certainly in the return-to-classic rock arena. The lead singer, Jay Buchanan, is compared to Jim Morrison; I think this is much more of a personal dream than it is reality. Again, who can live up to perfection? I have only listened to Pressure & Time once but I do like it enough to give it some attention. Stand out track so far is Pressure & Time (you can check it out on youtube). I purchased the EP (Jan 2011): Get Whatâs Coming Torture Radio Sacred Tongue Sleepwalker Soul and their first full length record: Before The Fire (2009): Tell Me Something Lucky Girl Memphis Sun Angel Pocketful of Stones The Man Who Wasnât There Pleasant Return On My Way I Want More Flames of Lanka Nanda-Nandana I think I was equally offended by and morbidly curious about the bold comparisons and just had to get alone with these guys to get myself sorted. Rival Sons have my attention as a potentially decent new (old) rock band and I do like some of what I hear but the jury's still out...

![]() A 1988 album from an artist whose career goes back to 1971. This is a gentle set of songs themed around love. She apparently dabbled in New Age music, and there's a hint of that on this record, but for the most part the obvious signpost would be Kate Bush for me, although Claire's voice is a touch deeper than Kate's. Haven't played this one for ages, but it's a good enough effort. AllMusic 3+/5 stars.
