Second album from this Brit artist who peaked with this one in the U.S. but was a much bigger sensation across the pond. His debut album was actually a bigger performer on the charts. Don't think I've heard anything off of it. That plus this one both attained #1 status over there and this one reached #19 here. Fits into that blue eyed soul label and a cover of Hall & Oates Everytime You Go Away helps cement that on here. A very good cover that equals the original for me. It was his biggest hit and reached #1 here. Also love I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down but the best thing on here for me is a Tom Waits song called Soldiers Things. Big Tom Waits fan but I don't recall hearing this from him. Had I heard Waits version first I probably wouldn't be so high on this one. I didn't so I am. Very beautiful song. Only thing I don't like here is Hot Fun. This is the only album I own by Mr. Young. I see he had a release as recent as 2006 so I assume he's still performing, but his 15 minutes have passed.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Hot Fun

Best Track - Soldiers Things

Davenports and kettle drums
And swallow tail coats
Table cloths and patent leather shoes
Bathing suits and bowling balls
And clarinets and rings
And all this radio really needs is a fuse
A tinker, a tailor
A soldier’s things
His rifle, his boots full of rocks
And this one is for bravery
And this one for me
And everything a dollar in this box
Cuff links and hub caps
Trophies and paperbacks
It’s good transportation
But the brakes aren’t so hot
Neck tie and boxing gloves
This jackknife is rusted
You can pound that dent out
On the hood

On the laptop.

Latest from PS, released earlier this year.

I think MH said in a post recently that he hadn't paid much attention to Paul Simon in recent years, & I've been much the same. The last of his I bought was The Rhythm of The Saints. The reviews would suggest that he's had a bit of a dip in quality since then, but that this and its' predecessor are a return to form.

IMV this is a good record, and goes onto the Buy List. It doesn't differ greatly from either Graceland or TROTS to the extent that there is still evidence of the mandatory inclusion of some World musicians, which is no bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

AllMusic 4+/5 stars.

This is a late reply CH..................Now I'm digging deep and I may be wrong but Press to Play's photo is not by Linda ,,.....It is by "George Hurrell took the cover photograph with the same box camera he used in Hollywood in the thirties..........the camera is a simple box brownie! and it is a brilliant photo !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Fantastic song from Australian band's debut album of 1978. Jimmy Barnes at his best here although he was still impressive on Tuesday night!
