I have fought hard along with the other mods are members of this forum to maintain a place where people can come and express their views without fear ................MD is a place where views are respected and the philosophy is to generate real discussion and debate.

I am saddened that you feel that you have not the chance to feel this situation and feel disappointed as a mod that I/we were not able to support you a little more. I read your last "big" post Thetyari and I would be saddened to lose your participation. You have something to say/share - by the way I'm a fan of the "shrieking monkeys bashing guitars" heh heh - love that and will use it again.

My foray into electronica has been helped by Philip Glass & Steve Reich - minimalist composers. Subtle changes over a long period of time, very cool and very relaxing. Much like the cool bop movement of the 60's - love it!

I'm thinking you could have some fun here, but it is your call.

A couple of months Armin Van Buuren celebrated his 500th A State Of Trance radio show. This was a huge deal -- five weeks of parties and shows on five continents (and yes I caught a lot of it over the web and in person). Yet the single biggest global music event in any genre this year passes by without a mention here at all.

How could I expect with this situation to be able to discuss new developments in grime, drone, Creative Commons and all that entails, witch house (which isn't a dance genre at all), dubstep -- or any number of things going on right now, dance music or not? This is not just limited to what's happening in dance music. Would anyone know about eigenharps, continuums, slabs, or Linnstruments other than me? How about organisational developments in modern scholarly music, like Pauline Oliveros' "Deep Listening" concept or Anthony Braxton's "Ghost Music"? The issue here is very likely lack of interest in digging these things up as far as I can tell.

The best experience that I'm sure everyone here has had to some extent that illustrates this: imagine the late 60's, early 70's -- amazing new albums and singles being made weekly. You look forward to what's happening new this week, eagerly go down to the record shop to check out what's fresh out of the box, that you couldn't buy earlier for lack of it existing. Contrast this with meeting someone who is very heavily into music, but knows absolutely nothing other than Alfie Noakes or Edward Elgar -- not dismissive of new rock music, just can't discuss it with you out of no knowledge. This is the vibe I get here. Basically the climate's changed radically and I'm not sure I see anyone here has noticed.

This is not a criticism -- just noting that there's no synch with what I'm looking toward ... but thanks for the kudos .... maybe we'll cross each others' paths on the net elsewhere.

So, I guess your part in MD was to bring these ideas to us to enrich and add your knowledge to MD and to bring in new people ........................That's a long path that needs persistence and skill............tolerance, understanding and strong intellectual arguments......That's the strength of MD that it can tolerate that kind of change and find new directions ...........That's why we exist and why we keep going.........however, we can only do that if every member is open to new ideas and tolerant of those that are here and will come in the future..............There are many members here who have that but, MD has one thing at its heart a love of music and a support of those who love it ..........we offer that BUT you have got to offer that back to us too............................. Don't know Alfie Noakes, know Edward Elgar and I've been following Anthony Braxton for over 40 years ! I've heard of Oliveras but not familiar. It is humanly impossible to be familiar with every music maker ...this Music Discussion Group is just that ! All are welcome to share their music so others can discover it !!!!!! I cannot stay with one genre, type, format, label, category, whatever we want to call it in this genre crazy world of music today in 2011 !!!! If I did I would soon become bored and depressed !!!! This MD keeps me interested in music old and new !!! I don't know every artist over the past 50 years so I can get exposed to Clifford T. Ward, Jarre, Blackfield, Finn Brothers, Avett Brothers, Blue Nile,and Riuchi Sakamoto...etc. by listening to recommendations by our members ! How can I know about Armin van Buuren if no one mentions him ? I was curious as I saw his name come up several times on a live concert list !

Actually, someone can talk about the Eigenharp - I was the first one to mention it on this forum and as it so happens one of the first people to buy one, albeit the 'junior' version (the cheaper model). Also if you look at the musicians forum you will also see that I mention the new guitar processor (I am pretty au fait with music technology) - based on the piezo-electric 'eBow'. You don't know it all. Neither do I. But you obviously feel aggrieved that you are not being listened to or feel that your statements are being ignored simply because someone else on a forum (which has a number of diverse opinons) does not agree with you. That is what it means to belong to a forum - diverse points of view and discussion around those views. By the way please be wary of the Creative Commons licence concept. The only one who truly benefits from this is the lawyer who who designed it - read the fine print - carefully! There is very little difference between this concept and the 360 degree contracts being negotiated (see Penny Will's posts). I compose, perform, arrange, record and produce my own music. It all comes out of my own pocket, it takes years to develop and there is a shitload or work in the background that no-one ever sees. But it's a labour of love and I will continue whether people like it or not. When you have done the same amount of work then you can criticise. As far as I can see you are more of a talker than a doer. Finally in the spirit of reconciliation, I will step aside and let you continue on unhindered on this forum and you won't have to be confronted with my stupid concepts, daft ideas and opinions anymore. I am bowing out. You have the floor........tot siens!

well of course, "classic" music isn't marketed at kids because it's not current. Kids listen to Lil Wayne not because his msuic does more for them than anything else, but because it's all thats marketed to them
