What Are You Listening To?

WIRE "its beginning to go back again" 1989, from the MH vinyl libary.

the band emerged from the late 70s UK punk scene, only to disband in 1980, several reformations have occured since, the latest in the late '00s.
the seventh of their twelve album releases, this one however, is a reworked version of tracks from their previous two releases.
this is not a punk album but both MH and myself feel a sense of Roxy Music and Psychadelic Furs transends throughout this one.
we both rate it in the "like" range with MH rating it a 1.8 and me a 1.7 upon initial hearing, we both agree that Eardrum Buzz is the best track here and are also in agreement that Public Space is the worst track. this album does nothing to make me want to explore their back catalogue further.

On the laptop.

Kurt Wagner's band's fifth outing, from 2000.

As with most of their stuff that I've heard, there's little stylistic consistency about this album. What can be said is that the music is chilled, and has at least one eye on Alt Country.

Good album.

Trout Mask Replica

I listen to this virtually everyday. It is the greatest album ever made, don't argue. The only album that even comes close is The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady by Charles Mingus

If it's worth anything Ibrahim, Reader's Digest Magazine cited Trout Mask Replica as the rock album of the century and The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady as the jazz album of the 20th century !

On the laptop.

American band's second release, from 1998.

This album is probably unlike pretty much everything you've heard before. Genuinely unusual music, in combination with some fairly unfathomable lyrics make for a highly interesting listen.

It's accessible, but would take me years to unravel its' complexities.

Definite Buy Lister...

I love Aeroplane Over the Sea. It was my favorite album for awhile, along with Pinkerton by Weezer. Both are still somewhere in my top 5. Right now I'm listening to I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One by Yo La Tango. Sounds cool enough I guess

^ I ordered a CD of the Neutral Milk Hotel album earlier today.

Also, Yo La Tengo are a great band, and that's a good album.

On the laptop.

1987 compilation of their entire recorded output.

This is XTC in full-blown Psychedelia mode. They released one EP (25 O'clock), and one album (Psonic Sunspot) under this pseudonym, and both are combined here.

I love XTC, and they're obviously not strangers to a bit of Psychedelia, and this was well critically received, but it doesn't do much for me. Bit of a let down...

No Buy Lister here.
