On the laptop.
Jim's poetry recited, with the band adding music following his death. Released in 1978.
I've always been intrigued by this one, but have never heard it.
Music Head posted this as a featured listen some weeks ago (edit: well I thought he did, but can't find it in the archive ?!), and indicated it wasn't great. I'd agree wholeheartedly.
Does very little for me, and adds nothing to their collective legacy. No Buy List place for this.
AllMusic 2/5 stars.

On the laptop.
Debut album proper from 1967.
A million miles away from Trout Mask Replica that would follow just two years later. This is Blues/Rock, but already the music has a strange edge, it's just that this is entirely more accessible than TMR.
Gets easily onto the Buy List.
AllMusic 5/5 stars.

Yeah, Safe as Milk is pretty epic. I mean, TMR is a million time better, but SAM is still awesome. Electricity is probably my favorite Beefheart song

ELP - In Concert (Works Live) - been meaning to get my hands on this for a long time. Was impressed with it bar the ridiculously long drum solo from Mr Palmer. His solos on the original 'Works Vol 1' were a lot more palatable.

i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.
1967 debut from one of my fave bands.
A debut that includes The End has to be taken seriously. In their brief but meteoric career, this would prove to be a high benchmark indeed.
Bluesish Rock that still sounds fresh as a daisy after nearly 45 years !!
AllMusic 5/5 stars.

^^^^^^^^^(9) Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

SYD BARRETT "the madcap laughs" 1970,vinyl....from the library!
sorry, but fans of Syd aint gonna like this one!
neither MH or I can figure out exactly why Syd has been lifted to God-like status....even though MH likes the early Floyd material??

MH rates this one
