SYD BARRETT "the madcap laughs" 1970,vinyl....from the library!
sorry, but fans of Syd aint gonna like this one!
neither MH or I can figure out exactly why Syd has been lifted to God-like status....even though MH likes the early Floyd material??
MH only liked two off this one(tracks 3 and 6), but i did like four(tracks3,4,5,6)....the remainder we agree on 100%...boring and crap!
MH rates this one 1.2 and I 1.4.....no we dont copy eachothers marks, we take it in turn on each track to give first score!
WE DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

I am surprised you like ANY of the tracks. Syd had one or two good ideas right at the beginning of Floyd but that's about it. The rest is a shambles. Floyd only found their true sound when Gilmour stepped in and Waters took control of the writing duties.

Released within months of his death, in 1989.
What a shame that RO didn't survive to see his career take off again with a little help from the likes of Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, & T-Bone Burnett.
A live show with the above players, plus a star-studded line-up of other vocalists, which mostly sticks with Orbison classics, although the Costello-written The Comedians from the Mystery Girl album is here.
The voice was still strong.
AllMusic 4/5 stars.

1968 debut from Canterbury scene Jazz-Rockers.
There's some Avant-Garde Jazz skronkiness early on on this record (some of which hasn't aged well), but there's also some lovely music in the latter two-thirds.
Soft Machine won't ever be anywhere near to being my favourite band, but there's enough here to keep me coming back...
AllMusic 4+/5 stars.

^ "Third" is the real Soft Machine masterpiece
I'm digging Neil Young's "Zuma". Sounding pretty good so far

I recently heard Third for the first time. Didn't do it for me.

I think I'm out of step with MD received wisdom on this one. A recent thread suggested this is one of the Fabs' strongest albums, but I've never felt it was...
Stuck it on the i-Pod for another appraisal.
I stand by my opinion of this one. It has to be a classic album, cos it's The Beatles, and it's very good, but I still don't think it's anywhere near their best (neither is Sgt Pepper IMV).
Whether or not the band were pioneering at this stage, I think that a lot of what's on here has been done much better by others since.
Of course, there's a good quota of genuinely brilliant material here; Come Together, Something, Here Comes The Sun, & much of the closing suite, but much of the rest is merely good IMHO.
There we go, I'll have to keep going with it !!

Zillionth album from Folk-Prog Rockers, from 1991.
Not much of their Prog inclinations by left this time, and this is more Rock-Folk than Folk-Rock.
Lyrics are littered with Ian Anderson's usual sly innuendos, but the band are in good form, and Anderson has one of Rock's best voices IMHO. Not their best, but they're always fairly reliable, so this is still a good album.
AllMusic 3/5 stars.

1976 album from deceased Irish Blues-Rocker.
I've had a copy of this since my teens, and it's a firm favourite. Strange then, that I haven't ventured into much of his other work. This is a very good album.
