What Are You Listening To?

On the laptop.

One of the key players in Dubstep. The blueprint for this can be found in Blue Lines (^), although there isn't much similarity in sound, it's more the mood...

The Soul of Blue Lines has been replaced with a more alienated mood, and there's a colder sense of menace on this one. But, the impression of a city by night is clearly felt on both albums.

Buy List dead cert...

i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.

1996 debut from Sarf London Trip-Hop outfit.

Not dissimilar to Massive Attack, but Archive use some solo String instruments to very good effect on some of the tracks.

Nothing revolutionary, but still a nice, mellow listen.

i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.

Pioneering German Electronica outfit's live album from 2005.

Many would think that Kraftwerk's music wouldn't translate well in a live setting, but this album would suggest that there's more warmth & humour about their catalog than you'd think.

Some of the material is extensively reworked, which feels appropriate for a band with a strong association with technology, and a futuristic bent.

Very good, but probably not essential...

On the laptop.

Debut album for original Ultravox (before they Popped things up...) vocalist, from 1980.

Used to have a cassette of this when such things existed (suppose there are still some around ?!), and haven't heard it for years. Thought I'd give it another listen.

This comes from the same time as Numan/Tubeway Army were doing the same sort of thing, but John Foxx's music is more austere, futuristic, and alienated-sounding.

Don't think this would get many plays, so no Buy List place for it...

Her debut, from 2000.

Icelandic singer of Italian descent. This is an album of quality Trip-Hop with more than a passing resemblance to Morcheeba, especially in the vocal department.

Her subsequent recordings have moved away from the Electronica featured here, and this may be due to a change of producers. Roland Orzabal from Tears For Fears was in the producer's chair for this one.

Excellent listening.

Brian Eno with Rick Holland - Drums Between the Bells ....Recommended by our good friend Jerome, this album is a fun and highly entertaining listen !!! I have listened to it three times today since buying it yesterday ! It has been awhile that I can say I've played an album three times in a row !!!

Very addictive music and on my top ten for 2011 for sure !!!!

By the way, has Brian Eno ever been recognised with any music awards or accolades, or music achievement awards ? He's been around forever and actively involved in music for at least 40 years !!!!!!
