apparently, according to itunes when putting Hank Williams III album on my ipod i discovered that i am wrong to suggest he is a 'country' singer when in fact they class him as a 'punk' genre artist????....which is total bollocks because his music is very much in the same vein as his late grandfather's???
therefore i can only conclude that Hank Snr is also a "punk rocker"!!!!

Does anybody have a recomendation for properly backing up your itunes library. I want to somehow make it all one file, but half the music on my library is on an external hard drive and the other is on the actual computer. Is there an easy way of bringing it all together, and will it all be on my itunes after I restore my computer, because sometimes when you drag in like an album one song gets missed?

As for iTunes genres, I find them very confusing but I find the genres pretty confusing anyway.

Maestro, you can create different itune libraries. I have one for music, one for tv and movies, and one for audiobooks. The music one I pull from my external drive by using the add folder to library. First I made sure all my music was in one folder and all sub folders were correct. It took about 2 hours to move 20,000 flies in 8,441 folders. Then I copied all the folders to second extrenal hard drive as a back up. As I add to my main library I also add to the back up.
Use multiple iTunes libraries
You can have more than one iTunes library. You might want multiple libraries so that you could, for example, have a library of holiday music that wouldn’t appear in your iTunes DJ mix the rest of the year. Or you could use separate libraries to keep your music on your computer and your movies on an external hard disk.

To create or use a different iTunes library:
If iTunes is open, quit it.
Hold down the Shift key while you open iTunes (from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes).
In the window that appears, do one of the following:
To create a new library, click Create Library.
To choose a different library, click Choose Library.
In each library you create, you can select different preferences for the iTunes Media folder, the types of content that are displayed, parental settings, and the library name. To set preferences for a library, choose Edit > Preferences while using the library.
You can name your iTunes library (the folder containing your iTunes content and the iTunes Library.itl file) whatever you like.
Tip: For best results, if you create additional iTunes libraries, don’t name the new libraries “iTunes” or “iTunes Music.” Make sure each iTunes library has its own unique name so you’ll know which is which.

I am going to get rid of the dreaded yellow bar known as OTHER soon as it's sucking up my iPod capacity like crazy !!!
Copy my iPod files to computer and then restore the iPod (where and how) ? Then copy files back to iPod manually ????
Not sure exactly ???...help BJ !!!!,,,,,,,,, I have heard horror stories whereby people lose all their files !!!! other than that...lol... I love the Apple iPod !

Moving music from an iPod to a computer is not easy. You need computer that does not have iTunes loaded then use the iPod as an external hard drive(depending on the model of the iPod some will not work) and transfer the mp3s to a folder on that computer then transfer them to a computer with iTunes installed and load them into the library.
That's why I have back ups that are not contained within an iTune set up. I have a PC so these instrustions are for a PC. Normally iTunes music is stored in Documents and Setting>YourFolder>My Documents>My Music>iTunes>iTunes Music
In this folder you should have all your iTunes downloads and purchased items, including apps if have them on your iPod, because iTunes backs them up. If you want to split up media and music you need to create at least two iTune libraries.(I have 3) Moving music into its own library is easy if you use File>Add Folder to Library to iTunes from the iTunes Music folder as described above. I reset my iPods about every 3rd up load by deselecting everything...playlist, odd songs, apps, and all other stuff. It does keep the yellow bar to a mimumin.
The big thing is to have enough room from backups. I have 3 Tera bytes. Hope this is helpful.
