What Are You Listening To?
Close to Edge-Yes

Yes are kind of like the Mars Volta just thirty some years earlier. This album is progressive masterpiece, on par with Red or Frances the Mute

Love Yes - 'Going for the One' and 'Tales From Topographic Oceans' are never far from the CD player.

This morning it's Adele's '21'. A masterpiece. Album of the year - hands down.

And after that Steely Dan's 'Aja'. By the way - just for the record - 'Steely Dan' was the trade name given to the world's first chrome-plated dildo. The pair are well-known for their near-obsessive perfectionism in the recording studio, with one notable example being that Becker and Fagen used at least 42 different studio musicians, 11 engineers, and took over a year to record the tracks that resulted in 1980's Gaucho — an album that contains only seven songs.

Second volume from the box set, recorded live in LA in 1968 and released in 1992.

Much earlier than volume 1, as it dates back to the Pigpen era. The music's more Bluesy, with a healthy dose of acidic improvisation. Runs to three discs, with only 12 tracks.

Not my favourite period in their history, but it's a great album nevertheless.

AllMusic 4/5 stars.

On the laptop.

Ex-VU member's solo debut from 1970.

Decidedly accessible album, considering Cale's previous input into the Velvet Underground. Mostly fairly lightweight Rock material, with plenty of strong melodies & lyrics.

Nothing outstanding, but interesting enough to make the lower reaches of the Buy List.

maybe you should also seek out her debut album "19", the music isnt as meaty as "21" but great nonetheless.

your post that came after this one mentions Steely Dan...great band!, they are touring here in a couple of months on a dual bill with Steve Winwood, unfortunately i spent my money a few weeks ago on a trip and also on Waters "the wall" tickets for early next year.

Wrong Cale album, you should have gotten "Paris 1919". That album is a masterpiece. Really, I don't use that word lightly, there are very few albums I'd call masterpieces, and that's one of them
