i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.

Their zillionth album, from 2008.

Mark E Smith's barking vocals are accompanied by some Garagey Post-Punk music, with some odd Electronica thrown in for good measure.

As ever, Smith's lyrics are somewhat cryptic, but that's just part of the appeal for me.

Worth checking out for anyone with a taste in leftfield Alt Rock (Matt, I'm sure you're aware of this band, but if not, they might well be right up your street ?!).

AllMusic 4/5 stars.

TALKING HEADS - THE NAME OF THIS BAND IS TALKING HEADS (LIVE FROM 1982)

I blindly pulled the album out this morning to start off my Sunday....incredible weather here today...31 degrees celsius ...must be a record for 25th September !!!! I'm glad I did as Sunday has been dedicated to Talking Heads !!!!

This live double album was recorded over a period of four years (1977-81). If you don't know already, I have a preference for Live Albums and this one is a cracker !

The cover of Al Green's - Take Me to the River is a classic.

This album will get you dancing !!!!

ALLMUSIC...4.5...STEVEO....I'll go up to 5 !!!!

I can't believe it's been 20 years. I remember where I was when I first heard it! It was a huge deal to us at the time. A bunch of teenagers crowded around a car listening to a cassette play through the speakers. One of my peers had run up to a group of us excitedly saying 'Come here! Come here! You've got to hear this!" It was a big deal. I was already listening to bands like Jane's Addiction, Alice in Chains and moving away from the mainstream. I'm not sure why Nirvana had the bigger impact. I guess you have to credit Kurt. I guess when I asked recently where are all the rock stars of today , that's what I meant. Who is this generations Nirvana or Beatles or whoever? Please tell me something is on the horizon and my kids will get to feel that excitement!

Very well stated, Trace !!!! You can relate to Nirvana like I did to The Beatles ... you have to be there ,,,music is subjective...I don't knock people's choices !!!...I just hate BROAD statements with no reasoning or detailed critique !!!!

i.e. The Beatles Suck !!! why...no reason !!! man I hate that !!!!.. I consider this of no value whatsoever and not even an IMHO reason !!! There's no constructive dialogue !!!! It adds nothing to the intelligence of music discussion !!!

The Beatles absolutely do not suck. I wish I had been there. I see people who are absolutely obsessed with the Beatles and I just don't get that but I wasn't there, I guess I can't.

They were absolutely like nothing else in music at the time !!!! ...somewhat I'm sure like Nirvana !!!!

(and I hope you don't think I said that you said that The Beatles sucked !!!!????...lol,,) ...I was just sounding off...I had a bad experience in another music discussion group,,,Amazon to be precise...and the guys on there think they are music geniuses ....if you don't agree with them - look out...you better have a thick skin !!!! One guy thought The Kinks were it...I mean it...the be all to end all of music !!!! I respect everyone's opinion ,,,but that's not an opinion that just plain ludicrous and stupidly silly !!!!

I agree that the Kinks were a great band...very very underrated !!! IMHO...better thabn or the best ..as compared to what ??? I hate those words ' best and better' when talking about music or the arts in general !!!! I prefer the words " my favorite".

I actually think that all he listened to was The Kinks...what a shame....poor soul..missing out on a calvacade of musical adventures like all of us here at MD enjoy !!!! Personally I'd go nuts in no time if I listened to only one group all the time !!!!

Oh by the way, another guy said that the Texan sixties band - Doug Sahm's Sir Douglas Quintet (hit singles ..She's About a Mover and Mendocino...I recall) were better than the Beatles....now that's an interesting twist !!!

Sorry for using you as a sounding board Trace, it's a slow night on MD, so thought I'd rant a bit like we all do from time to time on this fantastic music discussion site !!!!
