"the killer" turns 77
#1
yes, The Killer aka Jerry Lee Lewis turns 77 today and is the last surviving member of the now famous "million dollar quartet" from the old Sun Record days of 1955/56.
he released his most recent album just last year, a duets album entitled "last man standing" and still tours to this day(allbeit an embarrassment to his former glory days.

he has always been controversial and his private life puts his music in the shade, from marrying his 13 yo cousin, to shooting his pistols at the windows of Graceland in the 1970s, through to the mysterious deaths of a couple of his ex-wives, for which there was never enough evidence to charge him with their untimely end...

that aside The Killer churned out several of early rock n roll's classic performances including:

Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

i think Trace just nailed it...Carl Perkins, but there's a quintet if you count Roy Orbison also....

also if you didnt know Carl's brother Luther was part of Johnny's Tennessee Three until he died in a house fire in 1968, after the Folsom album but prior to the San Quentin album...

i love his country material better than his rock n roll material also...same goes for Elvis with me(much prefer his 1970s stuff)
recently saw Chuck Berry on youtube also from the last couple of years....both are an embarrassment to what they were. so im glad in a way Elvis went when he did for that reason

Going to watch Peter Gabriel's 'Secret World' DVD for the umpteenth (sp) time tonight. Probably the most innovative visual solo artist of the last 20 years. His music for 'Rabbit Proof Fence' & 'The Passion' are brilliant soundtracks. And 'Ovo' is another fave of mine.
