What Are You Listening To?
i dont like a lot of his 'leftist" political statements, but he does tell a good story and obviously believes in what he sings about

lol
was going to say that, but figured you already knew it
politics never stops me from liking good music
anti-establishment has always been the path to make a statement

Good to pull a gem out of the box on occasion. Makes it all worthwhile. Only one of the three I have. Come On Eileen was a #1 hit both here and in the U.K. and probably the only song most know off of here. Nothing bad on the album which went to #14 stateside. The song made them a one hit wonder here. A previous #1 in the U.K. of Geno off the debut album did nothing here. A Van Morrison tribute with Jackie Wilson Said gets fair treatment, but this band was too good to do covers. This had to be a great live band in their day. Leader/vocalist Kevin Rowland must have been a hard mate to work for as the band lineup was constantly changing with many disputes. The band split for good after a failed next album. Kevin attempted some solo work only to meet dismal sales.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Jackie Wilson Said

Best Track - Come On Eileen

Come on, Eileen.

Come on, Eileen.

Poor old Johnny Ray, sounded sad upon the radio;
Broke a million hearts in mono.
Oh our mothers cried, sang along, who can blame them?

You've grown (You're grown up)
So grown. (So grown up.)
Now I must say more than ever.

(Come on, Eileen.)
Toora, loora, toora loorye aye.
We gonna sing just like our fathers.

Come on, Eileen,
Oh I swear (well he means) at this moment
You mean ev'rything.
You in that dress,
my thoughts, I confess,
verge on dirty.
Ah, Come on Eileen.

Come On, Eileen.

These people round here
Wear beaten down eyes sunk in a smoke dried face
So resigned what their fate is,
But not us (no never),
no, not us (no never),
we are far too young and clever.

(Remember)

Toora, loora, toora, loorye, aye.
Eileen, I'll hum this tune forever.

Come on, Eileen,
Oh I swear (well he means)
Ah come on let's
take off everything,
that pretty red dress, Eileen (Tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, ah come on, Eileen,
Pleassse …

Come On, Eileen, Tooloorye aye
Come On, Eileen, Tooloorye, aye, toora.

Now you're all grown (toora), Now you (toora) have shown (toora),
Oh! Eileen.
Said, you've (You) grown (toora) (it's strange that our feelings have grown),
so grown (toora) (about how you feel)!

Now (toora) I (toora) must (toora) say (toora) more (toora) than ever,
things round here will change.

I said, Toora (toora), loora, toora (toora), loorye (toora), aye (toora, toora, toora).

Come on, Eileen,
oh I swear (well he means) at this moment.
You mean ev'rything.
You in that dress,
my thoughts (I confess)
verge on the dirty.

Ah, come on, Eileen.

Come on, Eileen,
oh I swear (well he means) at this moment.
You mean ev'rything.
You in that dress,
Oh, my thoughts (I confess)
verge on the dirty.

Come on, Eileen,
oh, ho, ho, (well he means) oh, ho, ho ...

I had pretty much given up on Lou at this point. I knew he had some great songs left, but they were few. One shows up here with My House. Heavenly Arms comes close. This would be his 11th solo album, and the first after returning to RCA after a stint at Arista. A return to a stripped down sound (guitar, bass, drums), complete with plenty of guitar distortion other than the mellow tracks. Not to the extent of Metal Machine Music distortion, thank God. Critically acclaimed as a back to his roots effort, still no respect from the music buyers, with a disappointing #169 showing. Not that Lou was ever a chart topper.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Average Guy

Best Track - My House

The image of the poet's in the breeze
Canadian geese are flying above the trees
A mist is hanging gently on the lake
my house is very beautiful at night

My friend and teacher occupies a spare room
he's dead, at peace at last the wandering Jew
Other friends had put stones on his grave
he was the first great man that I had ever met

Sylvia and I got out our Ouija Board
to dial a spirit, across the room it soared
We were happy and amazed at what we saw
blazing stood the proud and regal name Delmore

Delmore, I missed all your funny ways
I missed your jokes and the brilliant things you said
My Dedalus to your Bloom, was such a perfect wit
and to find you in my house makes things perfect

I really got a lucky life
my writing, my motorcycle and my wife
And to top it all off a spirit of pure poetry
is living in this stone and wood house with me

The image of the poet's in the breeze
Canadian geese are flying above the trees
A mist is hanging gently on the lake
our house is very beautiful at night

Our house is very beautiful at night
Our house is very beautiful at night
Our house is very beautiful at night

Since when has Lou Reed been alt rock? I mean, he was influential to the genre but that doesn't mean he fits into it

anyways, Merriweather Post Pavillion-Animal Collective

When it debuted in 2009, I hated it, but listening to it today, it actually sounds pretty good. I guess since there's no more hype around it I can examine it more objectively

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "murder ballads" cd, but listened through ipod....

heard this one tonight to and from Dani's place on my ipod....
not much to say about it only that the title says it all, and the artist is Nick Cave....
this guy must be the most underrated writer of the past four decades, he is up there with DylanandChapin as a great storyteller, he also has the ability to role play in his songs, something that most singers fail to achieve.
possibly the "album of his career" and by which i judge his other albums....
