Double album post DSOTM re-release of early Floyd (67-68), first album with Syd at the helm. I've said before, the
best thing Pink Floyd ever did was dump Syd Barrett. Sorry to all the Syd lovers. Like most in the US, I didn't get
into Floyd until Dark Side of the Moon, at which point I went back to the other material. Meddle was the first one
I really liked overall. I didn't take enough drugs to get into this period. Even in the 60's. Nothing on this 2
album set I love, with many I don't like at all. I believe I also have both of these as a single disc which I
probably picked up after this one. Don't ask me why. This set was a slightly different track listing in the UK
where it reached #21 with the US version at #36.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Pow R Toc H

Best Track - Let There Be More Light

Far, far, far, far a-way, way
People heard him say, say
I will find a way, way
There will come a day, day
Something will be done

Then at last the mighty ship,
Descending on a point of flame
Made contact with the human race at Mildenhall

Now, now, now
Is the time, time, time
To be be be aware

Carter's father saw it there
And knew the Rhull revealed to him
The living soul of Hereward the wake

Oh, my something in my eye eye
Something in the sky sky
Waiting there for me

The outer lock rolled slowly back
The servicemen were heard to sigh
For there revealed in flowing robes
Was Lucy in the sky

Oh, oh did you ever know, know?
Never ever will they
I'll (cannot) say

Summoning his cosmic powers
And glowing slightly from his toes
His psychic emanations fly

I love AC/DC "Highway To Hell" I am driving my neighbors nuts over that song every morning. They most think they live in hell.

The groups fourth and best for me, loving seven tracks. Special memories help it though, as the tour supporting
this release was the first concert I had taken my wife to. I was trying to ween her off the Carpenters. It never
worked. The album proved the band was much more than metal, with branches going everywhere, but you still can't
help but bang your head when Bohemian Raphsody kicks back in. That remains my favorite and one of their signature
songs. Yes the album is over produced by Roy Thomas Baker, making some of the tracks unable to be re-created in a
live setting, which is why I prefer some studio music over live. Roger Taylor and Brian May both get vocal outings
here with Brian winning on two superb track, '39 and Good Company. Roger's I'm In Love With My Car get's a passing
grade. It's still Freddie that carries the band though with a delivery that's hard to equal. The only thing that
shouldn't be on here is May's adaptation of God Save The Queen where he tried to one-up Hendrix. The album was an
expected #1 in the homeland and a #4 in the states.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - God Save The Queen

Best Track - Bohemian Raphsody

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

It's too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the fandango?
Thunderbolts and lightning - very very frightening me
Galileo, Galileo,
Galileo, Galileo,
Galileo Figaro - magnifico-o-o-o

I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go - will you let me go
Bismillah! No - we will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let me go
Will not let you go - let me go
Never let you go - let me go
Never let me go - ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no -
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has the devil put aside for me
for me
for me
for me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?
Oh baby - can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out - just gotta get right outta here

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters, nothing really matters, to me
Anyway the wind blows

I think they're telling us this is their ninth album. One hit wonders here in the states with A Whiter Shade Of
Pale, though I guess they were somewhat bigger in the British homeland. Had to be to have held on this long. Only
one album left before they would disband in '77. Reformed in '91 with little success. Early period saw Robin Trower
on lead guitar. He left in '71 to go on to even greater fame. This album includes the bands final top #20 UK hit in
Pandoras Box, which is also my favorite here. One other track I love in The Final Thrust, with a couple of bombs
also, including the true to the original but brutal cover of the Beatles classic Eight Days A Week. Overall a decent album,
but doesn't approach their first few for me. It made #52 in the states and #41 in the UK, with the Pandoras Box
single hitting #16 there.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Eight Days A Week

Best Track - Pandoras Box

While horsemen ride across the green
and Snow White still remains unseen.
Pegasus, the winged horse,
relays his messages by Morse.
And like some pirate sailor
We crossed the Spanish Main
And brought our magic carpet
to a marble staircased plain.

While Handel plays his melody
Doctors cause uncertainty
And though I know the lifeguard's brave
There is no one for him to save.
And like some pirate sailor
We crossed the Spanish Main
And brought our magic carpet
to a marble staircased plain.

Cock Robin views his frozen feet
and wraps them in a winding sheet
and calls out for his favourite drink
the Persian that's as warm as mink.
And like some pirate sailor
We crossed the Spanish Main
And brought our magic carpet
to a marble staircased plain.

1977 album from ex-Van Der Graaf Generator vocalist/musician.

A cathartic break-up album, with a particularly blunt lyrical approach.

Good music, if a little glum...

i did this one a while back when i got introduced to LC via MH's album posts....
and now i have introduced Dani to him....with great success i must add,
it all came around to us discussing KD Lang the other day, she said she loved her "hallelujiah" song, i let her know it was a cover of a song by LC and pulled out this one with that track on it....to my surprise she loves this album....
next one to play for her is the only other Cohen album i own..."songs of love and hate".
