What Are You Listening To?
Treasue-Cocteau Twins

A supposed "classic" of early indie/alternative, I knew I had to hear the thing. It's very nice, etheral, and lovely music. It creates a very cold, calming atmosphere

A gift from a mate. Did a best of set of this guy a few weeks ago. Had I known this one was in the stack, I would
have done it first. Five tracks from this one were on that one. After grading this time, then looking back, I see
one came out with a love mark, that didn't make that on the last listen, proving that repeated plays work. That
track is My Way Home. Also see that the gifter of this album, graded it back in Sept of last year. A 2.5, must be
an aussie thing. I like it, but not near that much. Good to see we both picked up on a Beck sound. This is Alex
Lloyd's debut album and sold quite well in Australia and got him a Best Male Artist award from the ARIA. Looks like
four singles were released from here with My Way Home charting the best at #50. Surprised to see that weak showing
and the album going to #9. His follow up would fare even better. I found myself liking the music more than the
vocals or lyrics on here.

Best Track - My Way Home

Something about last night
What did you say
I feel so cold on a sunny day
Over loaded mind as i walk this path
Think about you in a daylight bath
I feel like this on my way home
No place i'm going to is known

You're the sun that's in my eye
I concede so i will survive
Consequence will come what may
You let me run
You let me hide
I'm coming home

The sky is so dark, dark and blue
Picture shaped clouds of you know who
Looking for a sign in the midnight sun
Fighting myself isn't that much fun

the album is a 'grower' MH, pretty sure if you heard it a few more times it would come a lot closer to a "love" rating from you also.

but, the important thing is that you liked it!

OASIS "standing on the shoulders of giants" cd,2000.

the fourth album from Noel and Laim Gallagher...
the best word to describe this one IMO is "crap!"
not much happening here, they lost their mojo after "whats the story morning glory" album, had just about given up on them after hearing this album and time has not changed my opinion much except "where did it all go wrong?",which i used to detest, is now my favourite track here, taking over from the Laim penned ode to his son "little james".
little else worth mentioning here other than after "be here now" album and disasterous US tour of 98-99, all members quit the band including both Laim and Noel...time healed several wounds and Noel and Liam were left to complete this one on their own with the help of Alan White on drums. pretty much a transitional period for the Gallaghers after the debarcle of Be Here Now wondering where to go to next...thus the self questioning track "where did it all go wrong?".
either way, not a very good example of the quality of the writing abilities of Noel Gallagher.
this album reached #1 in the UK, failed to chart almost everywhere else, also scored a UK #1 hit with "go let it out" and a couple of other top five hits with "who feels love?" and "sunday morning call"....none of which deserved the positions they got IMO!

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Occasionaly one of those hidden surprises pop up out of the box. Probably hadn't given these guys a thought since
the last play, no telling how many years ago. Only one I own I think, but that could be a mistake. Formed in
Hawaii, relocated to Texas and both sounds present. Still recording and now in Chicago, where they have discovered
house music, so they have no doubt left me now, but the early albums, if like this one, have to be good. So many
instruments used on this album, of the exotic kind, make this a melting pot of sound. Only one track could be
considered close to a traditional rock sound, Fruitless, which is my least favorite, probably because by then, so
far into the album, it seemed out of place with the rest. Three love tracks, of which the final, Big Walk, takes
the favorite spot. The lineup for the band has changed frequently, with as many as 10 members playing a little bit
of everything. Emphasis now seems to be dance, so I probably wouldn't like them now, This album is nowhere close to
that. Never charted here, and I'm not sure sure where I picked up on them, but this album was well worth it. Of
course there is no clip for my favorite, but the best representation of the band at the time are tracks 3 and 4.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Fruitless

Best Track - Big Walk

Take a trip 'round this great big world
There are many things that I've never seen,
many places that I've never been but I'd like to.
Global Village, under one sun,
that means one for all and all for one.
This great big world is for everyone.
India, Africa, Canada, and Thailand too.
Afghanistan, Australia, Tahiti and Russia, too.
Suniva's way up in Canada, we wanna know
"What's it like?"
There is no nationalism, there is no sole religion
Those are ideals of the past, they don't work here anymore

I'm on a roll here. Three love albums in a row. Their best album, the debut and one of my favorite albums of that
year. Blew me away when it came out. Music, lyrics, vocals, all superb on most tracks. A rare triple. Love six
songs on here and nothing I don't like. Mr. Jones has always been my favorite, everything about it, down to the Bob
Dylan reference. Ghost Train the least with good lyrics but the music fails. The album has gone 7 times platinum
here after climbing to #4 on the chart, with the Mr. Jones single at #2. The chaps down under saw the album as a
#12 and the UK at #16. Occasionaly the general public gets it right. For me the Crows have not equaled this
masterpiece. Hard to do when you start out with something this good. With only five studio albums in the can in 18
years I can't see them equaling this. Everything after August pales in comparison.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Ghost Train

Best Track - Mr. Jones

Shalalala la la la Uh huh..
I was down at the New Amsterdam staring at this yellow-haired girl
Mr. Jones strikes up a conversation with a black-haired flamenco dancer
You know she dances while his father plays guitar
She's suddenly beautiful
We all want something beautiful
Man I wish I was beautiful
So come dance this silence down through the morning
Shalalala la la la la yeah.. uh huh yeah..
Cut up Maria! Show me some of them Spanish dances
Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones
Believe in me
Help me believe in anything
Cause I want to be someone who believes

Yeah!

Mr. Jones and me tell each other fairy tales
And we Stare at the beautiful women
"She's looking at you. Ah, no, no, she's looking at me."
Smiling in the bright lights
Coming through in stereo
When everybody loves you, you can never be lonely

Well Ima paint my picture
Paint myself in blue and red and black and gray
All of the beautiful colors are very very meaningful
Yeah well you know Gray is my favorite color
I felt so symbolic yesterday
If I knew a Picasso
I would buy myself a gray guitar and play

Mr. Jones and me look into the future
Yeah we Stare at the beautiful women
"She's looking at you.
I don't think so. She's looking at me."
Standing in the spotlight
I bought myself a gray guitar
When everybody loves me, I will never be lonely

Ill never be lonely
cause im never gonna be lonely

I want to be a lion
Yeah!, Everybody wants to pass as cats
We all want to be big big stars, yeah but we got different reasons for that
Believe in me cause I don't believe in anything
and I, I want to be someone to believe to believe to believe yeah!

Mr. Jones and me stumbling through the barrio
Yeah we stare at the beautiful women
"She's perfect for you, Man, there's got to be somebody for me."
I want to be Bob Dylan
Mr. Jones wishes he was someone just a little more funky
When everybody loves you, ah son, that's just about as funky as you can be

Mr. Jones and me staring at the video
When I look at the television, I want to see me staring right back at me
We all want to be big stars, but we don't know why, and we don't know how
But when everybody loves me, I want to be just about as happy as can be
Mr. Jones and me, we're gonna be big stars..

Counting Crows were one of two support acts when i saw The Who several years ago and they did a fine job on the stage IMO, have a lot of respect for these guys but yet to get an album...guess i'll have to put this one on the list now.

This is supposed to be hardcore? Like, in the same legue as Black Flag or NoMeansNo. It's not, it's melodic guitar work with some obnoxious man talking about "Progress" and "new ideas" and all that crap. Anybody calling this shit hardcore has clearly never heard real hardcore like "Damaged" or "Wrong"
