This band is a treat to listen to ! They do several styles of music ...rock, folk and rhythm and blues and are never boring ! Perhaps Arcade Fire were influenced by Poi Dog Pondering ? Music Head Wrote:from my library (vinyl)

Occasionaly one of those hidden surprises pop up out of the box. Probably hadn't given these guys a thought since
the last play, no telling how many years ago. Only one I own I think, but that could be a mistake. Formed in
Hawaii, relocated to Texas and both sounds present. Still recording and now in Chicago, where they have discovered
house music, so they have no doubt left me now, but the early albums, if like this one, have to be good. So many
instruments used on this album, of the exotic kind, make this a melting pot of sound. Only one track could be
considered close to a traditional rock sound, Fruitless, which is my least favorite, probably because by then, so
far into the album, it seemed out of place with the rest. Three love tracks, of which the final, Big Walk, takes
the favorite spot. The lineup for the band has changed frequently, with as many as 10 members playing a little bit
of everything. Emphasis now seems to be dance, so I probably wouldn't like them now, This album is nowhere close to
that. Never charted here, and I'm not sure sure where I picked up on them, but this album was well worth it. Of
course there is no clip for my favorite, but the best representation of the band at the time are tracks 3 and 4.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Take a trip 'round this great big world
There are many things that I've never seen,
many places that I've never been but I'd like to.
Global Village, under one sun,
that means one for all and all for one.
This great big world is for everyone.
India, Africa, Canada, and Thailand too.
Afghanistan, Australia, Tahiti and Russia, too.

CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:Counting Crows were one of two support acts when i saw The Who several years ago and they did a fine job on the stage IMO, have a lot of respect for these guys but yet to get an album...guess i'll have to put this one on the list now.

Obviously some so called music critic didn't even listen to the album, Matt ! I think in general , music genres can be very misleading at times and a real pain in the rear! mtthwibrahim Wrote:No Control-Bad Religion
This is supposed to be hardcore? Like, in the same legue as Black Flag or NoMeansNo. It's not, it's melodic guitar work with some obnoxious man talking about "Progress" and "new ideas" and all that crap. Anybody calling this shit hardcore has clearly never heard real hardcore like "Damaged" or "Wrong"

PRIMUS "frizzle fry" cd,1990.
second set from these guys, not sure why or when i bought this but i dont like it.
seem to be a cross between metal, alternative, encompassing the sounds of Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Cake to drop a couple of names
still, i cant really put my finger 100% on these guys music..."weird" is a good genre for them IMO.
i only like five of the fourteen tracks giving this a rating of 1.4, Dani, however heard this for the first time when i played it yesterday and she likes it?, bloody Pink Floyd fans never like real music IMO! LOL!

Live album, released in 2006.
Bought on recommendation from a passing member back in August.
This is basically Eels Unplugged. E's songs are given the acoustic treatment, backed by a string quartet, acoustic guitars, upright bass, pipe organ, minimal percussion, and assorted other acoustic instruments. The unflinchingly emotional lyrics are placed centre-stage within the stark instrumental backing, which suits them well, but I still prefer the original arrangements.
AllMusic 4/5 stars.

PiL "live in tokyo" vinyl/cd, 1983.
ten track double vinyl album of Public Image Limited's 1982 Japanese tour...
shame the PiL debut single "public image" isnt on this one...
half the album is pure crap and even Lydon's unique vocal style cannot save them from the "do not like" score.
best track here is the brilliant "this is not a love song"...one of my favourite tracks from the 1980s..
all up not very good, but neither is a lot of their studio tracks...he had his "fifteen minutes" in The Sex Pistols!
all up, album rating is 1.6.

Freaky! dudes got five fingers on one hand. Thought I liked this album a lot better than it ended up. Hate when
that happens. Must have been thinking of another one. A lyrics sheet would have been helpful on this one. It is
Shane, so I had to overcome the slurs along with the accent. As a result of that, the music carries most of this.
It is a good album, just not as good as I expected. This is the groups fourth album and their best selling in the
UK where it reached #5, and a #118 in the US. You can have the leadoff instrumental which sounds nothing like
Pogues music. I do love three tracks, but don't like four. Misty Morning, Albert Bridge is the only track showing
as a single which charted in Ireland and the UK, but not here. A departure for the writing credits as MacGowan only
shows on six of the fourteen tracks here. His alcohol abuse had started to show as other band members step up.
Don't know the band well enough to say for sure, but sure sounds like someone besides Shane is singing on a couple
of these tracks. Or maybe he was just sober on those.

Worst Track - Gridlock
Best Track - London You're A Lady
Ah London you're a lady
Laid out before my eyes
Your heart of gold it pulses
Between your scarred up thighs
Your eyes are full of sadness
Red busses skirt your hem
Your head-dress is a ring of lights
But I would not follow them
Your architects were madmen
Your builders sane but drunk
Among your faded jewels
Shine acid house and punk
You are a scarlet lady
Your streets run red with blood
Oh my darling they have used you
And covered you with mud
It was deep down in your womb my love
I drank my quart of sin
While chinamen played cards and draughts
And knocked back mickey finns
Your piss is like a river
Its scent is beer and gin
Your hell is in the summer
And you blossom in the spring
September is your purgatory
Christmas is your heaven
And when the stinking streets of summer
Are washed away by rain
At the dark end of a lonely street
That's where you lose your pain
'Tis then your eyes light up my love
And sparkle once again

Turned on to them about the time of this release, by my daughter. Sometimes the young folk come through, along with
Ireland. This is the groups third album, which went to #4 here, and was a #2 in the UK and a #1 in Australia. Their
first two albums were actually bigger hits here. This one eventually went platinum, on the strength of singles Free
To Decide, Salvation, and When You're Gone, none top 10 but had respectable chart showings. Vocalist Dolores
O'Riordan sounds just dreamy when she slows it down on When You're Gone, and powerful when she kicks it up a notch.
This album is said to be a departure from their previous two, with more guitar and more social lyrics. Missed them
first two, so I don't know first hand. This one works for me though, with three love tracks and one bomb. Best is
When You're Gone which I can just melt into, with the finger snapping, doo-wopping retro sound. Electric Blue is
the bomb, nice church music intro, after that all I can make out is Electric Blue. After reading up, I would
probably like the first two albums better than this one. Oh well, maybe in a discount bin someday. The group is
scheduled for a new album sometime this year.

Best Track - When You're Gone
Hold onto love that is what I do now that Iâve found you.
And from above everythingâs stinking, theyâre not around you.
And in the night, I could be helpless,
I could be lonely, sleeping without you.
And in the day, everythingâs complex,
Thereâs nothing simple, when Iâm not around you.
But Iâll miss you when youâre gone, that is what I do. Hey, baby!
And itâs going to carry on, that is what I do. Hey, babyâ¦
Hold onto my hands, I feel Iâm sinking, sinking without you.
And to my mind, everythingâs stinking, stinking without you.
And in the night, I could be helpless,
I could be lonely, sleeping without you.
And in the day, everythingâs complex,
Thereâs nothing simple, when Iâm not around you.
But Iâll miss you when youâre gone, that is what I do. Hey, baby!
And itâs going to carry on, that is what I do. hey, babyâ¦
