A gift from a mate. Their third and their breakthrough album in the Australian homeland. Had not heard of them
before this. They became very big there, yet this is the only album that received any recognition in the states.
Made #171 on the Billboard chart. But how about 63 weeks on the Australian chart peaking at #2 and 5X platinum
there. Formed in 1973 in Adelaide as a heavy metal cover band. Changing their style they were signed by Warner in
'77, with their debut album to follow soon. First to albums eventually went gold on the strength of this one I
suppose. Fairly good album with nothing I didn't like and two love tracks. What I have is a 2011 collectors edition
re-release of the 1980 album. It also includes a dvd of a concert supporting the original release. Have not watched
the dvd yet. Singles were Choirgirl, Cheap Wine, and My Baby of which Choirgirl is my favorite, but Cheap Wine
fared the best at #8. Also love Ita which is about a real person who was a popular women's magazine publisher/tv
journalist at the time. Liner notes told me that. Always helpful to have some background information on a song. A
good album to have in a history of Australian music.

wow!, thought you'd like this album, but 2.2 score....thats bloody good mate!

Best Kept Lies is my least favourite, but still like it, hard to pick a favourite,probably Cheap Wine or Choir Girl.

sorry you cant play the accompanying dvd...its all to do with 'regions' of players and discs! thought i got the disc with the generic "O" region so you could play it!my bad!

can you see now why these guys rivalled and outsold AC/DC back in the day here...shame they never got the same international exposure as AC/DC IMO.

of the ocean you live on. I live on this side, they lived on that side. At their peak period, where anything was a
#1. The Beatles breakup gave them that honor. Their third consecutive #1 album here in the string of eight. At this
point the group was doing better here than in the UK. Recorded in Jamaica as Mick claimed it was one of the few
countries that would let him in. Lead single of Angie went straight to #1. The label objected to the ballad as a
single, but the band ruled. Follow up single was Heartbreaker which went to #15. Surprised the unedited version of
Star Star was allowed to stand at the time. It was censored for a later release. Tipper Gore must have stepped in.
Love five of the ten tracks here, with nothing I don't like. Rock on boys!

Camel - Dust and Dreams - inspired in part by 'The Grapes of Wrath' by John Steinbeck. One of my faves by them.

Golden Earring - Moontan. Something unique about this album. Far more 'spacey' than their other albums. Favourite track has to be 'Candy's Going Bad' - great vibe and that ending is fantastic.

THE BEACH BOYS "pet sounds" cd,1967.

i have the 2001 cd release which contains both original mono recording and also the 2001 stereo mixes...
anyway,
this was the album Paul McCartney was so blown away with that he needed to reassess the Beatles and create Sgt.Peppers soundscape album...
like Sgt.Peppers, i dont see what all the hoopla is with this so-called "classic" album...i guess you had to be there, which i wasnt...
that said, this is a good album but does just miss the "love" mark.it is full of great vocals, layered harmonies, cool orchestrations mixed with pop sounds.
"im waiting for the day" comes real close to toppling "god only knows" as my favourite BB track ever, and why did God Only Knows only make #39 in the US charts? i just dont get chart placings sometimes....whatever, its still a classic song!
at least the album proves there is more to these guys than the one dimensional beach/surfing songs that really dont cut it for me even though i come from a beach/surfie culture!
we all know these songs so im just linking my three favourite tracks...
