sorry, no cover picture for this one for some reason...

anyway,
a very, very strong collection of twenty of Fats' biggest hits, infact most of these hit the Billboard R&B top 10 back in the day.
very little to criticise about this boogie-woogie ivory tinkler from New Orleans, he apparently outsold every major US rock n roll singer in the 1950s except for....you guessed it, Elvis Presley, yet still remains slightly under-rated and under appreciated by the majority of people, but such classics as Blueberry Hill,Aint That A Shame,I'm Walkin' and Walking To New Orleans will alaways be regarded by me as essential songs in the formative years of Rock & Roll.
although more of an R&B,blues singer, Fats was an important part of music.
i had almost forgot about Fats till i saw news vision of him sitting on his roof clutching a box of old 78s during the Katrina storm that ravashed New Orleans a decade ago...it was good to see him still living there and that he wasnt going to leave his home for some stupid hurricane aged somewhere around 75....good on you Fats!
i had to go back and listen to this cd again once i played it to see if my score was correct as i initially thought i had overplayed the three star ratings...thankfully they held up,thus, this is a great album IMO
i cannot pick a best or a worst track off here as most of the two's could be threes on another day, and to single out one to say its the best dismisses several others as not being best tracks....

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

The Kinks' debut from 1964.

This is the first disc from the Kinks in Mono box set.

Along with what the rest of the early '60s Brit bands were making, this is partly original songs & partly Chuck & Bo covers. Again, like most of their contemporaries, the originals show The Kinks' (Ray basically) songwriting abilities at an early and fairly undeveloped stage. The best was yet to come.

Strongly Rhythm and Blues influenced music, and You Really Got me is an obvious winner, complete with Dave's knitting-needle-through-the-speaker guitar sound.

Both Jon Lord, & Jimmy Page make session appearances here.

RoviMusic 3/5 stars.

PINK FLOYD "ther division bell"cd,1994.

y'all gonna be shocked by my view of this one...
well,

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!

i wouldnt consider myself by any means to be a Pink Floyd fan, but i have a few albums(animals, the wall, wish you were here, dark side of the moon, final cut) and this one(so i guess that adds up to six studio albums in all..."animals" is the only one that i dont like.
by time this one got recorded Roger Waters had already left the band...and it does show in the lyrical aspect of the record, but overall the guitar playing of Gilmour is simply sublime IMO, and thats what this gets the "love" rating for, its a truly atmospheric, moving album...and not all the tracks sound strictly Pink Floyd sounding...which is not a bad thing.
the pro's at allmusic rate this one 2/5 for a converted 1.2 on the rating system here...not sure why, guess im not really a "floyd-o-phile", and dont understand these guys like a real fan does, even the reviews on other online purchase sites slag this album off...whatever, i think it is brilliant, a coule of tracks i dont like too much and they are the instrumentals "cluster one" & "marooned", man i could crack a few jokes about those titles, but when an album is this good, i aint even going to bother doing so!, pretty hard to seperate tracks on a PF album into individual likes, loves and dislikes as they tend to work as as an album, and not neccessarily intended to be listened to one track at a time, so overall i give this one a very high score of 2.6...which i believe is equal to the score i gave The Wall when i did that a year or so ago....

Hey CH you captured the whole thing in one word - sublime. I listen to this quite a lot and I find it has many layers to it.
By the way Cluster One & Marooned are both favourites. Sorry!
