On September 6, 1997 in Moscow, Russia, French musician Jean Michel Andre Jarre, set an attendance record for an outdoor concert of 3.5 million people !!!! He was invited to celebrate the 850th Anniversary of Moscow.
This is mind boggling to say the least ! Just imagine it....three million and 500,000 thousand music lovers all together in one venue !

Holy cow! How do you even enjoy the music in a venue that large? That is unbelievable!

Jarre was one lucky man. He knew how to unite his fan base. Good for him.

Not so sure everyone of the 3.5 million were die hard Jarre fans ...probably a party atmosphere and a free concert in my humble view ! It was during the 850th Anniversary of Moscow's incorporation as a city !

Here's another one:
I read in a book many years ago (but can't find any verification on the net) that Led Zeppelin once auditioned as support band for a tour by UK Rock & Roll revivalists Showaddywaddy, and failed the audition !!
This would have been in the mid-'70s when Zeppelin were filling stadiums (stadia ?!) around the world.

Be cool if you could find the book. That's pretty crazy.

I find this very credible. Haven't heard the pretty costumed lads but looks like a showband, one with precise arrangements (no adventuresomeness allowed). No way would LZ passed that test. The Zepp playing it straight for a pre-defined set?--they couldn't do it from behind a screen. What a great show that would have been though! Pay big dough for that one.
