What Are You Listening To?
from my library (cd)

The last gift from a mate, unless I get more gifts from a mate. One well known artist I haven't been able to get
into. This 29 track set didn't help. Clocking in at about 98 minutes, I wish he would have had shorter dreams, or
less of them. This is Paul's ninth solo album. Only one track stood out for me, and it took 19 to get there. That
would be the very nice Sea Spray, which was one of three singles released, and the lowest performing at #59 in the
U.K. The other two were Have You Made Up Your Mind (#19) and All I Wanna Do (#28). The album debuted at #1 there
but never charted on these shores. This is the deluxe edition which is 2 cd's, the second is 8 tracks, 4 of which
are different versions of tracks on disc one. Didn't need that or the 6 instrumental tracks. Plenty of others that
were also sub-par, giving this a just miss for a like mark. In fairness, minus the duplicate tracks and the
instrumental, it would have reached that. Looking back in the threads, me mate says this is a brilliant album.
We'll have to disagree there, but what do I know? I'm just an american bloke. I did not include the duplicates,
thus the missing numbers.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - The Dark Pages Of September Lead To The New Leaves Of Spring

Best Track - Sea Spray

Carry me home, carry me home
You old sea spray
Carry me home, carry me home
You old sea spray
Like the million stars before you
You shine through the strictest curfew
And listening to the rules of no-one
Just want to lay it over
Can you never see what I can see?

Carry me home, carry me home
You old sea spray
Carry me home, carry me home
You old salt spray
(Carry me home)
(You old sea spray)

Sweep me up and take me with you
To see the things that stand before you
Show me all this world has for me
I want all the light can show me
I can only be what I can see

Carry me home, carry me home
You old sea spray
Carry me home, carry me home
You old sea spray
Carry me home, carry me home
You old salt spray
Carry me home, carry me home
You old sea spray

sorry you didnt like it MH...but three dislikes out of around 20 cds aint too bad...is it?

i only gave this one 1.9 in the beginners guide, would have got 2.3 had it not been for the instrumentals, yours would have got 1.8 had it not been for the instrumentals...

have heard several of his new tracks from his album to be released in three weeks and not impressed at all, will be lucky to get a like rating from me!

I see his name has been changed to Sananda Francesco Maitreya. Not sure which is worse. One hit wonder with Wishing
Well off his debut, this is his third album. Don't think this is as good as that debut, and I haven't heard the
follow up. Still a decent album with three love tracks and two do not likes, not counting the 30 second throw away
intro. Reminds me of Prince somewhat, and he gives a shoutout to him in the notes, along with the Boss. Didn't know
he was more popular in the U.K. where this album peaked at #4. Barely noticed here at #119. Four singles were
released of which Do You Love Me Like You Say and Delicate both reached #14 over there. Delicate was the only one
that charted here, at #74. His follow up album to this performed even worse. Maybe the name change was an attempt
to reinvent himself, which has failed thusfar. Maybe some stupid squiggly sign for a name would have worked better.
Favorite for me is the beautiful Let Her Down Easy.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Seasons

Best Track - Let Her Down Easy

You're top man on the scene
You don't think life comes in between
But hey, she's just seventeen
She feels that she's a worldly girl
But man you've been around the world
She is just some worried daddy's girl
Even though there's nothing I can say
To cheat you and nature any way

Let her down easy
Her heart is on a dime
Let her down easy
And you'll grow up in time

In her strawberry eyes
The way she sees you signifies
That she's susceptible to your velvet lies
But if you must lay her down
May a butterscotch glow be her dressing gown
And please do not lead her on when you leave town
Even though there's nothing I can say
To cheat you and nature any way

Let her down easy
Her heart is on the line
Let her down easy
And you'll grow up in time

She's a woman now
With a daughter to make her proud
In her crayon world of paper clouds
She still remembers you
The first boy that she gave it to
And she laughs at how little then she knew
Her daughter's five and her grandfather adores her (of course)

Let her down easy
Her heart is on the line
Let her down easy
And you'll grow up in time

MIKE OLDFIELD "tubular bells" cd,1973.

guess this one should go in alternative as it doesnt seem to fit anywhere else, and i guess it was alternative back in the day, maybe?
as soon as i put this one on,Dani said "turn it up" after hearing the first couple of notes!
she actually plays this one on piano, so i guess she recognises it from that!
she loves this album, me, eewww!, not really!
like several little pieces of music within the entire piece, but overall, it appears to be a mish-mash of 30 second pieces put together to make a 45 minute album!...
look, Jerome and Dani love this so good on them...its harmless and it was hugely influential apparently amongst likeminded musicians...
whatever, dont like it overall..not my thing, give me Neil Young,Paul Weller and the Sex Pistols anyday!

It's OK CH - you're allowed not to like it - and I have a secret - there's parts of it I don't like either, but overall it suits me. Try his 'The Songs of Distant Earth' - I have a feeling you might prefer that.

I'm going through a real chill out phase with music at the moment and nothing suits that mood better than Gary Moore for me right now. I just get so immersed in his sound and his riffs just cut through to my soul. My favourite place to listen to my music is in my car on the way to work and this music just fits so well with me being in my own space.

"Empty Rooms," and the live version of "Perisienne Walkways," with the crowd gently overlaying in the background is a perfect sound. It's almost like the crowd are there, but not at the same time. Gary Moore just gives this perception that if the whole world could fit into a stadium to hear him play this track, he would still feel like he's playing it in his own front room. RIP Gary Moore...One on his own!

It's pretty damn impressive that a band who only recorded 12 songs, the sum of which come in at about 18 minutes, could be so influential. I guess it's because this stuff is so damned fantastic. No wave, punk rock at it's most extreme and experimental, has been something I've been digging for a while now, and this is the best example of the sound I've heard so far

BADLY DRAWN BOY "the hour of bewilderbeast" cd,2000. UK #13

debut set by this Manchester born artist.
when i got this as a new release from NME reviews i did not like it but gradually over the last decade this has grown on me
this album is described by those in the know as "the Bryter Later(Nick Drake) of the 21st century...its very pastoral, dreamy and needs to be listened to in one complete airing, listening to single tracks just doesnt cut it IMO(bit like The Wall).
all the usual instruments on here along with accordian, cello, french horn, vibraphone, tamborine, clavinet, wurlitzer pianos and body slaps...quite eclectic in that way....and Boy plays most of them.
alt rock, folk, pop, rap samples, all make this one wierd strange collection of songs worthy of a listen...
generally i do not like instrumentals as you guys are all aware of, but there is a nice one on here in the track "bewilderbeast"
allmusic rate this one a converted 2.7, i think that is a bit high, but a great album nonetheless IMO

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: bewilder
best track: pissing in the wind

PISSING IN THE WIND

ive been pissing in the wind
i chanced a foolish grin
and bribbled on my chin
now the ground shifts beneath my feet
the faces that i greet never now my name

just give me something
i'll take nothing
just give me something
i'll take nothing

now the drought is crippled by the rain
that hammers on my pain
we lose ourselves again
but all we need
-is to find a place to look
our worm is off the hook
a love that dangles free
lets watch it swim
against the rivers flow
in doubt the courage grows
with no guarentee

and so it goes
the moral to this tale
as tortoise catches snail
a strong heart will prevail

it keeps on pumping
it still[I] needs something
just give it something
i'll take nothing
just give it something
to keep it pumping
and i'll take nothing
just give me something.
