I am forever asking myself the question what will the next new style in music be.. and I dont just mean sub genres , but what will be the next totally new type of music .. or has it all been done now;;;
I hope it hasnt all been done yet we need more experimentation
( that is my premiss)..
folk
classical
blues
jazz
rock and roll
heavy rock
punk
soul
jazz funk
jazzrock
indie
new wave
reggae
hip hop
drum and bass
what is the next new music

there will IMO not be any new "genre" of music as everything seems to be put into sub-genres of other genre's, personally im not interested in "the next new thing", as long as it sounds good it can sound like anything it wants to

The next new thing must be mainstream or pop(popular) enough to appeal to the masses ! Obscure or off the wall music, which I enjoy also, will not be embraced by the public at large, believe me !
Adele is a glaring example of embracing basic old school pop , without getting into several meaningless genres/sub genres. Have we reached the point of no return ? .....maybe so..like MH, if I like it and it sounds good then that's all that matters. I am getting a litttle fed up with the overuse of genres !!!!! A lot of the sub genres only appeal to a small fraction of the general music buying/listening populus. Cults or small pockets of fans are created from these specialised genres. I like it all !!!!...however I find I can talk music to a stranger if I mention Adele more so than if I mention ..say ...Battles...lol.QUOTE=CRAZY-HORSE;57422]there will IMO not be any new "genre" of music as everything seems to be put into sub-genres of other genre's, personally im not interested in "the next new thing", as long as it sounds good it can sound like anything it wants to[/QUOTE]

This is great i am really glad that everyone has said that the genres dont matter because I feel that basically if its good music it doesnt matter what style it is . In my book there is good in any style of music from classical to jazz or heavy rock or drum and bass (i love ronnie size). To me a good record from anyone gives me the same buzz man..

You said it, Rusty !........Variety is the spice of music !
Do you have a particular artist or group in mind that you could possibly nominate for voting into the MD Hall of Fame ?
