If you can get past that squeaky voice of Clare Grogan, it's not that bad. Scottish band with a brief run in the early 80's. This was the last of three albums. Given a shot as the opener for Siouxsie and The Banshees. Initial success with their debut album and #2 single in England, Happy Birthday. That got them and NME award for best new group. The band split after this album. Grogan attempted a solo career which never took off, and eventually moved on to acting. Four singles off of this eight song album, of which Don't Talk To Me About Love became a #7 hit in the U.K. and is also my favorite. The album went to #16 over there, but was the lowest selling of the three, not even touching the U.S. charts. Price sticker still stuck to my copy, 49 cents. Can't complain about that.

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "tender prey" cd,1988.
this is The Bad Seeds sixth studio album
nothing to say except what i say for every Caveman album...you either love or loathe him and what he does, me, i love the guy and almost everything he has released, but this to me, is one of his not so great albums...only three great tracks on here, and also a track i do not like(which is unusual for me!)...
the lead off track "the mercy seat" still gets a "***" rating from me, but after Johnny Cash covered it on his Rick Rubin "american" albums, the song is now his, for he took it to deeper,darker depths than Cave could have envisioned IMO(much the same as what he did with NiN's "hurt").
allmusic rate this one a converted 2.7, but honestly, i cannot see where they can get that rating from, as even after i wrote down my scores i listened to bits of each song again to see where the pro's and i differ, and i just couldnt justify a score higher than the 2.2 i originally gave it! so the rating remains!

youre right about Nick Cave SteveO...he has never made a bad album IMO, most of which i admit i love, and even though this one gets a respectful 2.2 in the rating i feel its one of his lesser efforts overall, you know, 2.2 is a good score for any album IMO, but it seems its pretty bad for Nick Cave, just shows the quality of his material IMO.

COLDPLAY "viva la vida" cd,2008.
this is their fouth album out of five releases and this is IMO their worst effort to date...
for the most part i find this one lacking in their usual catchy hooks and melodies. its very dull in places, several of which just dont come out of the doldrums.
this album seems to lack something else, cant put my finger on it, but its there!?
maybe it was the anticipation of waiting for it to be released and i expected something earth shattering with the meaning of life or something similar, i dunno?, but it is a good album, just not by their standards...

THE NATIONAL "HIGH VIOLET" CD,2010... #3 US, #2 CANADA, #5 UK, #14 AU.
i really liked this one when i got it upon its initial release, but unfortunately time has changed my point of view and perspective of this one...
i now view this one as a cross between Band Of Horses and My Morning Jacket, some nice so-called Americana sounds, lovely baritone vocals from the vocalist, but there is little variation in the songs here, so much so that its difficult to listen and say "oh that song is such and such", all too much of a muchness...and aside from instrumentals(as a whole), that is my other pet hate with music(an album that all sounds the same!),some genres,however, only really have one sound ie: punk, but "alternative" should encompass a collection of all sounds and styles, and when and if the sounds on an album are all the same, they should at the very least have some intelligent,thought provoking lyrics to counteract that.
nonetheless, this isnt a bad album,didnt expect it to score quite as low as it did(maybe a 1.9ish), but it did and thats where it is in my collection right now.
