Haha.
I don't actually like her album cover. Usually she looks so put together and she takes some amazing photos. I just don't get this one.

![]() NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "the best of....", cd, 1998. Nick has never really been a 'singles' artist so a best of set seems out of place in his catalogue and gives me the impression that he just released it fullfill contractual obligations inbetween studio albums, fans like myself will always bicker and complain that other certain tracks seem are omitted from this set and will do so and never agree till the day the world ends, but that said this is not a bad introduction to the genius that is Nick Cave IMO. i guess the problem i have is that his albums are meant to be heard in one complete sitting say like...The Wall, which doesnt really work when radio play individual tracks, its like only reading one chapter of a novel without geting the full story or intent that the artist had in mind when recording the material. as expected, this is going to score very high from me because afterall...its Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, one of three artists i rate as never letting me down musically as posted n a new thread earlier today. Cave is a master of the macabre story telling and this shines through on this album, probably the worst track here is the very average "where the wild roses grow", a duet with Aussie songstress Kylie Minogue(not a fan of hers and she adds little to this one to change my mind), as or best tracks, pretty difficult to go past the classic "straight to you" or the upbeat "deanna", but only just pipping the other "***" tracks slightly. his original version of "the mercy seat" detailing a man on death row only gets "**" here, probably would have got "***" but Johnny Cash does a better version IMO on his American Recordings series of albums with producer Rick Rubin... also, as there is also a Cave "best of" dvd to accompany the cd i have chosen to use his official videos where possible and audio links to the tracks on here.... as you know, my Nick Cave is weak, with 1 album.
I've thought of getting a Best Of, but like you say, I've always thought of him as being one of those artists where you need to hear the whole album.

from my library (cd)
![]() A little better than their last one, which I did last week. I usually do my cd's in order. These got shuffled. It is the second release of their four. Contains the groups only hit with Breakfast At Tiffany's. One other love track with Done, and two duds to even it out. The hit reached #5, surprised the album got to only #46, but slightly better in the U.K. at #24. Thier only album to even touch the charts. Coming from Texas, brother Todd and Toby Pipes ran the show for the relatively brief existence of the group. On to other careers now. Fame is a fleeting thing. Sure did love that Tiffany's thing though which is probably why I bought this, along with their last one. Would have no doubt jumped off after that one if they hadn't done it first. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Gammer Gerten's Needle Best Track - Breakfast At Tiffany's You'll say that we've got nothing in common No common ground to start from And we're falling apart You'll say the world has come between us Our lives have come between us Still I know you just don't care And I said, "What about 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'?" She said, "I think I remember the film, yes and as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it." And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got." I see you - the only one who knew me And now your eyes see through me I guess I was wrong So what now? It's plain to see we're over, And I hate when things are over - When so much is left undone And I said, "What about 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'?" She said, "I think I remember the film, yes and as I recall, I think, we both kinda liked it." And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got." ![]() BIRDS OF TOKYO "birds of tokyo" cd,2010 #2 australia. third album by these guys from right here in Perth, think i bought this as a reccomendation from my friend Corey as he is friends with these guys(i guess they all played the same pub/club circuit at one time or another), also met two of the band at Corey's shop one day not long after i bought this one, when asked, i told them i thought the album was "ok-nothing special but had some good melodies on it"...i dont lie, so they asked and i gave them the truth according to my thoughts! met one of them since then, even heard a couple of demos from their latest sessions in march of this year which arent too bad neither. anyway, the album recieved "album of the year" at the 2010 ARIA's, and they recieved five other nominations, selling double platinum here. some good indi rock/pop sounds on here, as i said, nothing outstanding but a reasonable album nonetheless, a couple of tracks i do not like(tracks3,5) the rest ok IMO, pretty sure these guys. tough call for best track here...could have gone for the one i picked,"the gap" or "wild at heart"..hate it when its a tough call! could have a reasonably good career if they got exposure overseas as they are apparently a very good live act....
