![]() Had no idea these guys were still around. An album in 2011. Netherlands prog rock band who initially disbands in 1982 after a nine album run. Reunited in 2000 and are still going. Of course an 18 year break may not qualify as the same band. This is the bands seventh album and it's not that bad. Sort of a Yes sound in parts. Not as heavy on the keyboards. The waves never reached these shores but I guess they were pretty big there. Never a consistent lineup with founding member Ton Scherpenzeel the only one appearing on all albums. Highlight for the band was touring with Queen in the mid 70's. Strange thing on this album. It includes a lyrics sheet which has lyrics for all songs. Had to do a replay of the song Lost Blue Of Chartres, as their were no lyrics sung. Could not figure out where to insert them. Needless to say, I did not like that track. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Lost Blue Of Chartres Best Track - Periscope Life Sweet Marjorie she's talking to me I only say she's right Knowing her that's the only way not to be here all night Sweet Marjorie don't talk to me Your eyes outshine the stars Don't break the spell by saing love is just a farce She tells me I don't understand her point of view And I admit I really think so too My arguments don't ever seem to reach her 'No politics now, please'- but here we go again She says now this is where we disagree You've got to open up your eyes and see To live a periscope life like that I'll tell you where I'm at You maybe better off dead She's so extreme, she won't let me dream Won't let me love and caress I'm always told to look around and conclude this world's a mess Sweet Marjorie, she's dining with me I say let's order some food Although the system's wrong- the menu's looking good I know the whole world fights and kills and hates But lady must that always spoil our dates I can't imagine that the world would end If I would eat my steak now that it's warm 1) Astral Aliens ** 2) What's In A Name ** 3) Stop That Song * 4) If You Really Need Me Now ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKgFBZjbOJc 5) Periscope Life ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDwbptsYaWI 6) Beggars Can't Be Choosers ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOpO2Vf39rw 7) The Sight ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x7ICkmy0-E 8) Lost Blue Of Chartres * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F4pEt3NaNM 9) Anne ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCoC9OqCGC4 10) One Way Or Another ** 11) Sad To Say Farewell ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRRkoVM7lLQ 3's - 0 2's - 9 1's - 2 Grade - 1.8 so many albums, so little time

![]() A gift from a mate. Not too keen on this one. Only other album I've heard by this Australian artist is Children Of the Sun back in the 70's. Eight albums as a solo artist and this is his first one in 28 years. Looks like he spent some time in those missing years doing scores for various tv series. Must have been finding himself also. He found himself in Morocco for this album. Had just finished recording it when when Billy died from a heart attack in 2007. Three years later before the album was released here. Probably legal stuff contributed to the delay. Some eastern elements surface here which give it a unique flavor. Appearance by Mick Fleetwood who was a long time friend. Two tracks that have potential growth in Tangier and Fatima. Two instrumentals and two spoken word over music things, which I don't think are even Billy, seem to be a waste. Wondering if the album was even completed to his satisfaction before he passed. May have still been in the mixing stage. I'll attribute the weak showing to that. Billy was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1991. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Gypsy Best Track - Tangier 1) Marrakesh ** 2) A River Knows * 3) Since You've Been Gone ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AbHXjsXrlw 4) Gypsy * 5) Tangier ** video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QThGHKkb1g 6) Fatima ** 7) Long Time * 8) In A New World * 9) We Will Be There * 10) Out Of Here ** 3's - 0 2's - 5 1's - 5 Grade - 1.5 so many albums, so little time

back to Tangier......
ooops! sorry you didnt like it Ed, but im glad you are being honest in your assessments. the tracks were basically finished when Billy Thorpe died around 2007, and his friend Fleetwood stepped in to finish them properly and add musical bits where he thought they needed to go, which he duly did.... apparently that is Billy Thorpe doing that spoken track, which incidently, i love, along with the majority of the album the album took some 10 long years to record and write.

TYPE O NEGATIVE - October Rust (1996)
![]() One of the principle innovators of the gothic music movement in the 80s, Type O Negative led by the late baritone vocalist Peter Steele come up with a pretty decent hard rock album! The first three tracks are silly babble with a 30 second sound byte of a TV test pattern!...The band was always full of surprises and quirkiness. When you hear the intro to the album you automatically think there's something wrong with your player. All Music rating ....4/5
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

![]() STEPHEN STILLS "stephen stills" cd,1970. SteveO is going to like this after he posted it a while ago, then reccomended it to me..... i guess in bands, you pick a favourite member and love them and tend to dismiss other members who diss the one you love, Floyd fans tend to be either Gilmour or Waters fans,Bealtes fans are generally Macca or Lennon fans...the same for me with Buffalo Springfield...always dismissed Stills but as you know...i love Neil Young, but things are changing now. even though Stills and Young are complete control freaks with attitude i always thought Stills was an AH and wouldnt let myself entertain the idea that he was the equal of Young after Springfield split up in the late 1960s... anyway, this debut solo album was recorded around the same time as the classic CSNY "deja vu" set, it has bits of pop, blues, folky acoustic material and with help from friends Clapton,Hendrix,Crosby, Nash,Mama Cass to name a few it couldnt really be anything but a classic album IMO. im still not keen on Stephen's vocal abilities at times but i got to admit his guitar playing is absolutely sublime on the rockier bluesy tracks here....looks like ive got to look a bit further into his solo career now as this is a cracker of an album overall. i guess the problem i have with Stills is that he never evolved over time, he just seemed to play the same sounds on everything i have heard from Buffalo Springfield,Stills-Young Band and CSN, whereas Neil Young chopped and changed throughout his career(some downright aweful material but at least he was thinking and testing out different things!). when i saw CSN the other week he did do "love the one you youre with" live within the set and it was brilliant, still dont quite like it as much as The Isley Brothers version i also own, but it is still worthy of "***" on here, shame there is one track i do not like, but the others more than make up for that little blemmish! I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: to a flame best track: black queen tracks: 1. love the one youre with *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH3ruuml-R4 audio 2. do for the others *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OSaIUKi8p4 audio 3. church *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS0oYjfgJfc audio 4. old times good times ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUp-GOQPcdc audio 5. go back home ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoctMtrbVj4 audio 6. sit yourself down *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPMe7h5xSJU audio 7. to a flame * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoG08zIqARQ audio 8. black queen *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs7Jn3B3_2M audio 9. cherokee ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTkZXq0Eh1E audio 10.we are not helpless *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQLhhZIYeUk audio 3s=6 2s=3 1s=1 rating: 2.5
