Too much distortion for me on most tracks. I'm sure I liked it more when I first got it. I was more distorted then. The Massachusetts bands fifth album and first for me. I do like six of the ten tracks but even a few of those are a stretch. This album is around the peak of the bands commercial success. Only two more would come before they would split for a ten year period reforming in 2007 for two more albums and still kicking I guess. Start Choppin from here was the bands biggest single both here and in the UK. The album did considerably better in the UK, with a top 10 showing, while a #50 was the peak here.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - On The Way

Best Track - Start Choppin

Oh, there's no goin' back to that
I'm so numb, can't even react
Didn't say it's not okay
But we aren't dealin' the same way
I ain't tellin' you a secret
I ain't tellin' you goodbye

It's the last thing on my mind
Still you won't let things unwind
Spinnin' tight around your head
Can't you hear a word I've said?
I ain't tellin' you a secret
I ain't tellin' you goodbye

When you call it's just not fair
It's the last thing you should share
I can't deal, I'll let you know
Still I wish you'd let it go
I ain't tellin' you a secret
I ain't tellin' you goodbye

I'm tellin' you for one last time
It's not just you, the problem's mine to hide
I waited as long as I could
If you need it, sure I would, that's fine

Oh, there's no goin' back to that
I'm so numb, can't even react
Didn't say it's not okay
But we aren't dealin' the same way
I ain't tellin' you a secret
I ain't tellin' you goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

I'm tellin' you for one last time
It's not just you, the problem's mine to hide
I waited as long as I could
If you need it, sure I would, that's fine

I'm takin' away a lot of stuff
I'm tellin' you it's rough but not goodbye

THE WHITE STRIPES "under great white northern lights" cd,2010.

live set from one of the most dynamic, forthright and innovative talents from the last couple of decades IMO...
pretty hard to knock or dismiss Jack and Meg White in any form, but on this one they show the raw passionate energy that their studio recordings sometimes lose under the production process.
this is one of my favourite live albums in my collection, certainly up there with the John Cash "san quentin/folsom" albums, KISS "alive" and Neil Young's pre-2000 live sets...
well worth a listen IMO, and this one also comes with a bunus live dvd of the show(which i have not seen yet)

great,great album!

What a brilliant band and what a brilliant album! This group from Portland, Oregon is very creative and makes very good intelligent music!

(Matt prefers The Lonesome Crowded West album ..but I think they're all very good!!!!).
