Guess I could have just copied the review of their last one I did a few days ago. This sixt album is not much
different than the fifth, but if I had to pick, I'd go with this one by a hair. Still nothing great, but a little
less of the guitar distortion crap. Not that it matters in rock but this guy can't sing. I gave up after this one.
They only had one more album left anyway before the hung it up for 10 years, giving it another go in 2007, with no
more success than the first round so far. This is their best selling album reaching #44 with the single Feel The
Pain at #4 on the modern rock chart. I'll have to go with the follow up single, I Don't Think So. The group never
gelled with me enough to explore their early releases.

MH put me on to these guys on our Horse Head tour, heard two of their albums on the road somewhere...bought them both when i got back here, posted one of them months ago,cant think of the title though i liked it, the other one is in the stack to post fairly soon....

SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS - Disconnect From Desire (2010)



This album was before their last one Ghostory from this year that I reviewed on MD.

Folk rock with a twist. I like this album and the group ...very good female vocals from the Deheza sisters and Ben Curtis.

ELVIS COSTELLO "king of america" cd,1986. #71 UK.

this, in my opinion, is Elvis' materpiece....so if anyone wants to get a foothold into the world of Elvis Costello then this is a must IMO!!!, if you already have a foot in his door and havent got this one, then shame on you!
although he has made some mighty fine albums in his career, this one is "genius" from go to woe....his vocals,music and lyrics were never bettered on any album he has made before or since.
even the "**'s" here would almost certainly get "***'s" on a lot of his other albums, even the Animals "dont let me be missunderstood" which he covers here is almost brilliant.
i have tried and tried to pick a favourite off this one over the years and i still cannot do it so i suggest you listen to them from track #1 and work your way right through it to the final track.
IMO "glitter gulch" is probably the worst track here, but again would still score a "***" on some of his other albums...such is the overall strength of this rock classic!

if i had a choice of listening to an Elvis' "best of" or this one...i'd pick this one hands down,absolutely sublime IMO...was this one that turned me from an average Elvis fan into a fanatical one way back when...
probably only have a dozen albums whereby 70% of the tracks get "***",namely Springsteen's "the river" and "nebraska", NY's "tonights the night,"prairie wind", several Nick Cave, and Dire Straits "love over gold","brothers in arms","making movies"...maybe a couple of others all up, but thats about it...guess time will tell with what the others are when i post them??

not one of my favourite ones from these guys from Kentucky, but decent enough overall...
pretty hard to know exactly where to place these guys as they tend to blend most genres of music into their albums in one way or another, but on this one,unfortunately, most of it sounds the same,just laid back music with nice harmonies....
three outstanding ones on here IMO, plus three other duds,the best three seem to be a bit more beefy in the sound and presentation which breaks up the first half of the album nicely...
its hard to believe that the big,solid singer Jim Jones,with his long hair and unkept beard could sound so sweet and mellow with his vocals, but he does, must be something in the water down there in Ky...or maybe its something in the cigarettes that keeps him all quiet and serene!...LOL.
i sort of look at them as a modern Crazy Horse, what with Neil young's soft vocals and sometimes raunchy guitar solo's...but alas, on this one, theres few solos and/or CH style jams...
it'll be interesting to hear what jones does on his solo album when it is released towards the end of the year, whether he changes tact or stays with the same sounds.

California grunge band that has yet to break and time has probably run out. Four albums in the books with the last
coming in 2005. Debut album here that wasn't too bad. Never followed up on them though. Toured with Goo Goo Dolls
when the album came out. Billboard gave them a rock song of the year award for Counting Blue Cars off of here which
went to #15 on the chart. One of my two love tracks along with Charlie Brown's Parents which gets my fav. That was a
single also but bombed. The album made it to a weak #89. Only one trackI do't much care for, so not bad for a debut.
Follow up albums have not done much. The band have had a few songs featured in movies and tv shows but nothing has
popped the bubble. Might be time to go back to those day jobs. It was a nice run.
