His masterpiece for me. More like a piece of classical work. Performed live with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Based on the Jules Verne classic, a narration (David Hemmings) at various points describing the unfolding events.
There are some vocals, by Gary Pickford-Hopkins and Ashley Holt which are passable, but take a backseat to the music
here. That and the beautiful English Chamber Choir. I see there was a sequel to this album titled Return To The
Centre Of The Earth, released in 1999. Never heard that and would probably be disappointed as nothing could equal
this one. Although the album listing shows four different tracks here, there is no band seperation, so there is no
way I can score each track. The only part I don't care for is the guitar solo somewhere is the middle of side one.
Other than that, a superb album. It went to #1 in the UK and #3 in the states.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

JETHRO TULL "minstrel in the gallery" cd,1975.
im only now just "getting in to" Jethro Tull and from what ive already heard(three albums plus this one and TAAB2), he/they are about as consistant as it gets IMO...
probably the worst of the albums ive posted so far, but still getting a half decent score...
im still not sure where they fit into the scheme of things music-wise, theyre a "bitser group" IMO, you know, bits of this and bits of that, but somehow it all seems to work well together and make sense.
guess i'd call this one Medieval Folk(OMG,think ive found a new sub genre of folk!!!), a very laid back album full of lovely acoustic guitars, flutes and strings with the odd bit of electric guitar work in the mix for good measure...the thing that really attracts me to JT is the lyrical content of the songs, they are concise, precise and most of all intelligent to say the least.
this disc is the 2002 remastered version and contains three bonus studio tracks and two live recordings of the first two tracks on the album...think i prefer the live versions..
one of the bonus tracks is a flute instrumental...sorry,does nothing for me but does show the proffessional musicianship of Anderson's playing skills.
of the original album tracks(7 of them), theres one i do not like, the opening track, and one(the final track), which is only around 40 seconds long which i will not score here as i dont call it a song.
the sixth track(baker street muse) is an almost seventeen minute epic split into four parts, some of which i love, the remainder of it is ok, thus the "**" rating.
also, sorry abotu the lack of links for the three bonus tracks..Summery Sands would have been my favourite one on here but i couldnt do it as it wasnt on the original album!
all up, a pretty good album, and i cant wait to explore their back catalogue further!

Neil's sixth album. Roll Another Number. Need I say more? Ok I Will. Two of Youngs best friends had died from
overdoses just months before, Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry. The title song deals with
that issue head on. Kind of depressing in its context. Inclusion of it twice (open and close) seems a waste, but
whatever. A strange insert included in this vinyl copy. Written in Dutch which I never took in high school. Maybe if
I would have lasted past the tenth. It is a review of one of Neil's concerts. Another piece of the puzzle that is
Mr. Young. This album doesn't rate as high as Neil's best work for me, but it's even further from his worst. Still
finding himself maybe. Actually that is still going on I think. You just keep waiting to see what he comes up with
next. Vocals are really rough, as if trying to sound bad. Lyrics and music keep it together though. Critically
acclaimed with five stars from allmusic and making #331 on Rolling Stones greatest of all time. A #25 on Billboard
when it was released. Now I gotta see what the Crazy man said.

Worst Track - Borrowed Tune
Best Track - Roll Another Number
It's too dark
to put the keys
in my ignition,
And the mornin' sun is yet
to climb my hood ornament.
But before too long I might
see those flashing red lights
Look out, mama,
'cause I'm comin' home tonight.
Think I'll
roll another number
for the road,
I feel able to get under any load.
Though my feet
aren't on the ground,
I been standin' on the sound
Of some open-hearted people
goin' down.
I'm not goin' back
to Woodstock for a while,
Though I long to hear
that lonesome hippie smile.
I'm a million miles away
from that helicopter day
No, I don't believe
I'll be goin' back that way.
Think I'll
roll another number
for the road,
I feel able to get under any load.
Though my feet
aren't on the ground,
I been standin' on the sound
Of some open-hearted people
goin' down.

i just cant knock Tonight's The Night...it encapsulates everything that Neil was back then....a booze and drug addict and cleaning himself up after watching friends die....
was actually surprised your score came out as good as it did to be honest with you, so good one MH!
oh yeh, this is also Tiggi's favourite NY studio album also

amazingly enough MH...
just went back on an old NY site/forum i used to frequent and they did a survey amongst member a year or so ago as to their favourite NY albums...the results are as follows, a couple of surprises in there for my way of thinking..especially all three of the so-called "ditch trilogy" albums in the top 5..
1. on the beach
2. harvest
3. time fades away
4. tonights the night
5. ragged glory
6. prairie wind
7. everydony knows this is nowhere
8. neil young
9. greendale
10.comes a time
although i love "on the beach", so surprised it is the fan favourite????
and "prairie wind",thought that would be way up in the top3??????

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "magic" cd,2007.
im a bit surprised by the lower than expected score i gave this one below...thought it would come out better than it did, guess its now my least favourite Boss album..
i just found the music and vocals to be less than inspiring and only the lyrics got this one through as a "like" album this time, really hasnt stood up well over time IMO, too much of a muchness sound for me.
this one did hit the magic one million sales mark in the US and the opening track "radio nowhere" did score The Boss two Grammy's in 2008 for "best rock song" and "best male vocal"....then the following year when "girls in their summer clothes" was released as a single that too gave him a Grammy for "best rock song"...
i just find this one very very average for his talent, guess he had an off-year with the death of one of the E-Street Band during the recording of this one(cant recall which one though?).
all up though, an okay album, but not one to start your collection and interest in the legend that is Bruce Springsteen
