MAZZY STAR "among my swan" cd,1996.

got this one a couple of years ago and must have been a recommendation from Corey as i dont think i would have bought it otherwise...
sort of a loose affiliation between folk, psychadelia yet still in the 'alt' genre...
some real good guitar riffs here IMO, sort of like someof Crazy Horse's quieter moments, but offset nicely by the female vocalists slight, dreamy,fragile,surreal style, very nice acoustics to also offset the guitars, which are turned down low so as not to overpower the vocals...
the sort of album you could listen to with the headset on in a darkened room with a glass of wine..just calm and relaxing,
some tracks on here that i do not like, only because they have little variation and seem to just float by without me noticing too much about them..

LADY OF THE SUNSHINE "smoking gun" cd,2009

stupid me!....
i didnt realise till after i got the new Angus Stone cd that this is actually Angus Stone,yet ive had this one since its release, just never bothered to check the inner sleeve notes for whatever reason?
i was aware that Angus & Julia's "big jet plane" was on here though...
so,this is obviously Angus' first solo outing....
sound a bit like A&J Stone in parts, but not many,shades of Neil Finn solo,Bon Iver and to a degree some Jack White sounds here also, all up, a good solid performanve by Angus here, nothing bad, nothing great just twelve good songs, not as good as his latest effort, nor is it as good as the albums with his sister, but at least he has the balls to step outside the square with this one.

THE FRAY "scars and stories" cd,2011.

album was released here in Australia some two months before the rest of the world(here '11,there '12)...guess it had something to do with them touring here at the time,you know,hightened interest, thus bigger sales!?!
recommended to me by Corey, not one of his finer picks for me,but still okay indi rock with "okay" being the optimum word here!,hell, the leadoff single "heartbeat" is my least favourite track here, wierd really, you'd think leadoff singles would be the best tracks generally as they are inteneded to be the pulling point for the album...which reminds me....its the same thing with Gaslight Anthems new one,they released that terrible "45" as the leadoff single and that too is the worst thing on their album IMO
i like thi lyrics, and the vocals,some of the guitar work works for me also, but very average allround, and certainly not good enough for me to rush out and buy another album!

is that Emo???would have thought it was too light/fluffy and poppy to be called Emo?...but who am i to disagree when i hate the term "genre" anyway
dunno, its an ok tune, think its on the Ting Tings album i have, but cant quite recall the title...have so many to remember that sometimes i forget what i do and dont have on cd.

I know what your saying about EMO, but Katie calls herself emo??
Maybe before this song or album, not too many tats or iron on her, lol,
And it is fluffy, maybe this is GLAM ROCK ?????

THE CLASH "sandinista!" cd,1980.

dear oh dear oh dear!
"sandinista" should be retitled "how the mighty have fallen!"...
piece of crap IMO!....these guys lost me with this album which was originally a triple vinyl album...got back a bit of credibility with "combat rock" then totally destroyed themselves with "cut the crap".
by 1980 punk was dead, so were these guys IMO, i do admire them for making the effort to morph into something else, but alas, it did not work at all...
dub,reggae,rap,soul,pop,instrumentals, samples,...i dunno, maybe they knew that dub and sampling was the way of the future and they just got in there first...either way, abysmal album, just wondered what the hell they were thinking when they got what appears to be youngsters singing on a piano based version of 'career opportunities' from their superb debut set 'the clash'.
of the thirty-six tracks on offer here, eighteen are simply crap,the other half do get a like score, some barely scrape through though and none are what i'd call 'classic clash' tracks.
seems like this was the route Mick jones was heading towards his Big Audio Dynamite group in the late 1980s...IMO he should have simply left the Clash then to leave their back catalogue strong and their reputation intact! instead they IMO, simply became a parody of their former selves with this one, much like john Lydon became with PiL.

ELVIS COSTELLO & THE ATTRACTIONS "brutal youth" cd,1994. #2 UK

Elvis' seventeenth studio album in seventeen years and not one solitary bad one in that time...awesome feat IMO!
after its predeccessor,the almost classical sounding "the juliet letters", this ws a return to the form and sound i expected of him when at his best...a couple of ballady type things but mostly good to very good late 1970s EC & The Attractions sounds on here...the angry man was back, with biting,brutal lyrics/songs about his childhood in a warts and all story!
was actually the first studio album with The Attractions since the mid 1980s, and also his most raw and edgy sounding collection since that time also.
again, nothing bad on this one, but not as many great tunes as some of his other albums have, but still a good piece of work by anyone's standards!
