yes that is agood example of early beatles . although i think they really came into their own from rubber soul onwards

THE BEATLES "beatles for sale" cd,1964.
the Fab Four's fourth album in two years, and their second of 1964...
they look worn out and worn down on the cover, and jaded at times in some of the songs...well, what do you expect from constant touring and recording!
six of the fourteen tracks are covers...the final time they recorded covers for inclusion on albums if my memory serves me correct(unless you count the traditional ditty 'maggie mae' on Let It Be.)
strange to note that they released not one single from this in the UK...guess "a hard days night" was still riding high there, but scored a US #1 hit with "eight days a week".
pretty hard to pick a best track off this one.. i keep going back to John's "no reply" and "im a loser", but also Paul's whimsical and simplistic "i'll follow the sun"...i guess we'll see what i pick when i post it below???
worst track here for me has to be Paul's cover of Buddy Holly's "words of love" which simply doesnt compare with Texan Bud's original, John does a very very good version of Chuck Berry's 'rock and roll music', but again, how do you do Chuck better than Chuck?, simple answer, you dont,endof story.
Thomas The Tank Engine also gets a guernsey here with an old R&B number "honey dont"...sadly for us the Fat Controller(George Martin) allowed him to record it...IMO, he should have stayed in the Shunting Yards away from the microphone LOL!

classy,classy rock n roll from the 70s and 80s!!!
all their major worldwide hits are on here and a couple of dud tracks, the worst of which is their version of the song they wrote for Olivia newton John which was the title of that abysmal movie from the early 1980s...Xanadu, i love Olivia's version, but ELO's sucks big time!,sounds flat,it doesnt say, but ive got a feeling it was just a demo version and they stuck it on here thinking fans might like it....wrong move guys!
that aside, very little wrong with the grandeous,pompus, over inflated rock that is ELO...legendary stuff IMO.
as a footnote, i did read an interview with john Lennon which was done shortly before his untimely death in 1980 and he stated that.... this is what the Beatles would have sounded like if we'd have still been around!....high compliments indeed from the second greatest songwriter/performer in rock history!

i only have "Discovery" & "Time" plus this one on cd....in fact theyre the only albums of theirs i own,have them on vinyl also....cd sounds way better IMO

I just picked up the re-release (1997 re-issue) of A Script For A Jester's Tear by Marillion. It is really good, I haven't listened to this album in a long time and it sure is sounding good! I've been partial to their third release Misplaced Childhood but I have to say I'm going to be playing "Script..." then Fugazi (their first & second albums) before Misplaced Childhood. Sooooo good.

NICKELBACK "silver side up" cd, 2001.
Chad Kroeger and Co.'s third album and the one that broke them into mainstream rock...
some pretty hardedged themes on here from domestic violence through to broken/toxic relationships....
have four of their albums from memory, none are particularily good, they always seem to have a couple of great tunes,the rest a combination of ok and downright aweful songs...their singles are by far the best things on the albums so if you dont like them, you wont like their albums much(even then it tests the patience of the listener)...
am actually going to see these guys on November on the strength of their apparently great live shows...lets hope they live up to the hype!
as a footnote:opinion here is divided over their worth as a band...recently one of our national radio stations...TripleJ, did a poll for bets and worst bands around at the moment...Nickelback came in third in the "best band" list, but they took out "worst band" in that poll...hell,when asked to name best worst bands through the letters of the alphabet,people were voting like this...
Bickelback,Cickelback,Dickelback,Fickelback,Gickelback etc etc....LMAO
oh yeh...are these guys 'metal' as they tend to border that sometimes with some of their riffs?

Texas - Best of. I would pay top dollar to see this outfit. Sharleen Spiteri can just mime if she feels like it. In fact she does not need to do anything except be in the same room/venue. The rest of the band can take the night off. I would be in my element. She just floats my boat......
