![]() Let's just say not up there with his best. I'm trying to be kind here. It does pass, with a medium like score. Two loves, two do not likes out of the eight tracks. Got mashed potatoes, ain't got no T-Bone. No doubt the worst track here, that takes it. Nine minutes of that track, T-Bone. A workout session for the band I guess. Which it seems most of this album is. Not that you got a bad band there with CRAZY HORSE. Lyrically this has to be one of Neils worst, T-Bone being the prime example. The band is tight though, which probably saves the album. This is Neil's eleventh album and his third with CRAZY HORSE as the backing band. I'm going to blame this on the fulfillment of his contract with Warner. Next would be the Geffen label debut with Trans, but we won't go there. Maybe Neil just wantred to be done with Warner, and hastily threw this together. That sounds good. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - T-Bone Best Track - Motor City 1) Opera Star ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJroVZNx9lc 2) Surfer Joe And Moe The Sleaze ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9_vwofmsIM 3) T-Bone * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRpba1Opk1U 4) Get Back On It ** 5) Southern Pacific *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBG6Yi_q8Lw 6) Motor City *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt2WIgZZV_E 7) Rapid Transit * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXdaZLwNpYQ 8) Shots ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh-HcPW1BK0 3's - 2 2's - 4 1's - 2 Grade - 2.0 allmusic - 1.6

of course my Neil Young 'beginners guide' was purely a guide to his music, my scores reflected my views, those of 'allmusic' and fans views on his official website forum...
however in this case with this album i still think the 1.5 is about what it deserves(sort of borderline).

![]() Packaged as a double album, actually a re-release of Jeff's first 2 albums, which were released in 68-69. After his sixth album, Blow By Blow became a #4 hit, I guess Epic decided to capitalize. Both of the albums here charted at #15 on their original release. I guess they sold a few more by packaging them. The group also includes Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Nicky Hopkins. Stewart in fine voice at this early atage of his career. A lot of covers here with no originals till the second album. Interesting take on the Yardbirds Shapes Of Things to start off. Prefer the original, but not bad. Elvis covers are horrendous, as well as Ol' Man River and Greensleeves. You Shook Me, doesn't even come close to Zep's. And of course the closer instrumental Rice Pudding takes the worst. Not much on either of these albums for me. Beck reached legendary status at some point. Yes I know he's an excellent guitarist, but his albums never did much for me. If it wasn't for Rod Stewarts presence, I could totally pass on this set. Guess I wasn't in a blues/rock mood today.
