What Are You Listening To?
from my library (vinyl)

Well respected among his peers, hasn't really got much from music buyers. One top 10 album with Carney in 1972 and
one with his 2010 album with Elton John. Plenty of albums in between there of which I think I own none. The only
other album I have is Leon Russell and The Shelter People. Someone here has the Elton duet. Is that CH? Leon was
inducted into the R&R HOF in 2011 based on that long career. Was glad to see Elton give him somewhat of a revival,
although I'm not sure who was reviving who. This is Leons eleventh album, two tracks I love and the cover of When A
Man Loves A Woman that's the throw away for me. Percy owns it. Not sure if any singles were released from here but
the album only reached #115. A bounce back with his next release with Willie Nelson, before the slide began. That
was 1979 and Leon did not touch the cart again until the Elton release. Only one clip available from the entire
album, but at least it's my favorite.

yeah MH I think that Mike Pinder was an irreplacable part of that classic Moodies sound.

Far from their best work. In fact it may be their worst, at least of what I have. Think I even skipped the next few.
Mike Pinder replaced by Patrick Moraz, which does nothing for me. Missing the beautiful orchestral work they are
known for. This is the groups eleventh album. Holds a distinction of being the first compact disc manufactured
worldwide. Three singles released of which Sitting At The Wheel reached the highest at #27, with the album a weak
#26. Nothing I love on here which may be a first for a Moodies album. Highlight for me is the Ray Thomas vocals.
Always liked his the best. Also noticed the absence of Ray's flute work on here. So much missing as compared to
their previous albums. I think I felt cheated when I purchased this one.

CHICAGO "the ultimate chicago" cd,2010.

didnt realise these guys have been around since 1967....thought they were a mid 70s/80s band???...see, you learn something everyday on MD(or as part of MD)
eighteen tracks on this best of set....i just find them to be too 'slick and sickly sweet' for my taste, so very little on here that i can say that i love for that reason!
sure, i like most of the tracks, but i can take or leave these guys, aint gonna lose sleep if i never hear this one again or not!
also, found out that in terms of US chart success(for an American band) that these guys come in second to The Beach Boys on the US Billboard charts.
all-up though, not a bad album, but certainly not as good as i'd expect a career spanning 'hits' album to rate by any artist!

Think I always liked Chicago because they were one of the first bands for me that introduced a horn section into rock music.
Chicago and BS&T made me appreciate that
Reply
never even thought about the horn side of it before...thanks MH
