COLD WAR KIDS "loyalty to loyalty" cd,2008. #21 US
second album by these California locals...
some pretty good indi-rock/pop on this one, i hear bits of Kings Of Leon at times, but its KOL that has been polished, not rough and ragged!
nothing bad whatsoever on this early recommendation from Corey...

Compilation of the bands first two albums. That's all they had in their first life. Those two came out in 73-74.
David Johanson and Sylvain Sylvain reformed the group in 2006, and three albums have been released since then.
Haven't heard any of those and I'm thinking I wouldn't enjoy them. No way they could re-create that garage punk feel
30 years later. Crazy Horse and I saw these guys when we visited the R&R Hall Of Fame last year. They were touring
it also. When I saw these old men dressed like punks going in a seperate door, I knew they had to be somebody.
Didn't know who but CH went up and asked them. They must have been on tour, playing Cleveland. I would have never
guessed who they were. We wanted to get a pic, but they declined. This compilation gives you 9 tracks from those
first two albums plus a remake of the Shangri-La's classic Give Him A Great Big Kiss. That one actualy works for me,
even the talking parts. Probably wouldn't have if they hadn't changed the Him to Her. Love two tracks here and don't
like two. I call these guys hair punk.

DROPKICK MURPHYS "the meanest of times" cd, 2007
now this is what im talking about when it comes to punk....THIS IS PUNK in its finest form since the heady days of The Sex Pistols and The Clash...none of that Blink,Good Charlotte crap they call punk...
these guys would blow them away with their energy and power!
yep, this is raw power punk mixed with traditional irish fiddles, banjos, bagpipes etc...and by golly it works a treat IMO...rough aggressive vocals and themes here, no, these guys arent Irish though, they come from Boston from Irish herritage, not as good as theit "going out in style" cd from a couple of years ago, but awesome punk power nonetheless!
pretty hard to pick a best track here, all of the "***" ratings could get it but i picked out the irish folk sounding track...

I was in the hospital when a friend introduced me to Sonic Youth and the Pixies at the same time. Funny how we
remember things like that. Haven't seen the guys in 20+ years, but I'll always remember him for that. Sort of pulled
me out of a musical dead period. This wasn't the album, as that incident was a few years earlier, but I was hooked
by the time this one came out. The group had failed to chart, even after this fifth release, and never did hit it
big, but the cult following tag still holds true. Enough of a following that the group is still doing their thing. A
release in 2009 was the highet charting yet. Maybe they'll catch on someday. This album failed to chart at all here.
A double album may have been considered a risky venture for the group to take. Not really that long of an album with
14 tracks. Easily could have been a single album. It's not their best for me. Could have got a love rating, but for
the drawn out guitar jams on quite a few tracks. Best tracks are probably the Kim Gordon ones, she was just so punk.
