THE WINTER SOUNDS "runner"
nice alt rock/pop sounds from these guys who i have never heard of before...
i would say the vocal quality is similar to that of the guy from Hunters & Collectors,
and some of the music is along the same vein as early U2 circa 'new years day'
all up, i like this album giving it a respectable score of....
1.8
from the album:

the "sounds like" game is the first thing i do when i hear the first track off an album by an artist ive never heard of...its interesting to see if i can spot obvious influences...it makes no difference as to whether i like the album or not though...i like this one but im not a U2 fan by any means
BTW...you should probably still listen to it, i think you'd like it also

hope you don't mind CH
when you do a new album review, going to start listening if it's available to me and piggy back on yours
you seem to have a better selection criteria than me
sweet!
did a google search for "The Winter Sounds Runner"
seventh link in the queue was an album review at music-discussion.com
also sweet!
got the same exact grade for this that CH did, 1.8
that leadoff track had me
that was my best but also liked 5 other tracks
hearing anything from the Moodies to Arcade Fire
also on my list CH
providing an album review plus a clip of a live performance of that same clip CH did
prefer the studio, but the live is nice too
online listen
Album Review - from buzzbin magazine
New Orleans is known for its rich and distinct music history, but out of the city comes The Winter Sounds,
a five-piece indie band set to define new musical genres. With synth-heavy beats, roots-rock guitars and
vocals that echo the English New Wave greats, The Winter Sounds offers something a little different and
evolved. What bands like The Killers and The Bravery started 10 years ago is taken through an Arcade Fire
filter and twisted around in intricate knots to create the music this quintet is composing.
The band’s latest release, “Runner,” drops Nov. 27, and it’s a dozen exciting tracks heavily influenced by
a multitude of diverse musical styles. “The Sun Also Rises” is the perfect opening song, with its
theatrical progressive sounds, synth beats and enchanting vocals. It catches the listener’s attention like
the a triumphant fanfare and introduces the rest of the well-produced album with gusto.
“Run From The Wicked” is a roaring song with ’80s dance beats and indie-anthem vocals that make it a
carefully crafted track full of artful contrast. “Old Man Old Woman” practices this juxtaposition once
more with hip hop beats, sweet melodies and ups and downs that keep it colorful and interesting. From one
track to the next, The Winter Sounds fuse ’80s New Wave with roots instrumentation to tell new and
interesting stories through the medium of sound.
Scott Solter, who has worked with the likes of Spoon and St. Vincent, and Derek Garten, who’s worked with
Jewel and Lovedrug, produced and mixed the album, respectively. This collaboration by musicians and
techies is pure art with cool, commercial appeal. Beyond the recorded music, The Winter Sounds is a band
that tours far and wide, and often. With 500 shows in five years, this group doesn’t mess around, and fans
can find comfort in knowing they’ll make a stop in their hometown soon enough.
