IMPERIAL TEEN "the hair, the tv,the baby and the band" cd,2007.

forgot i had this one...and wishing it had remained forgotten also!
i had never heard of these guys and still really dont know who they are so i must have picked this one out of Corey's discount bin for a couple of bucks as one of those 'oh well,it might be ok and for three bucks there might be a few tracks i like' notions(well, four tracks i like actually but who's counting!)
allmusic tells me these guys are from 'frisco, its their fifth album and their leader is the old keyboard guy from Faith No More...
sort of second rate B-52's IMO, and i think the 52's are second rate at best...so i guess this means these guys are third rate then!
all too much of a muchness here and bland to say the least, not my cup of tea at all!

LAURIE ANDERSON - United States Live.....4 CD Box Set (1984)...total of 81 songs

There's no defined experimental forum for MD so I stuck this in as "alternative". An artist I have always enjoyed because she leaves you hanging as a listener ...you never know what to expect!!!!!

GREENDAY "international superhits" cd,2001.

"international superhits" my arse!...since when did these guys have any international superhits except "good riddance"???
the only studio album i own is "american idiot"...love that one immensely,in fact better than this set.
these guys are NOT punk IMHO, but they are a very good alt band, especially live, and the problem i have here is that they lose the energy, oomph and vitality of their sound in the studio by at least 50%...
look, only two of the twenty one tracks here i can honestly say that i do not like, the rest are very good and they have certainly matured as writers since the early days.
all up, a good selection of songs to get an honest overview of their early to mid careers, and had these tracks been live im sure there'd have been a few more "love" scores herewithin!
oh yeh, as a footnote here..."good riddance(time of your life)" hit the top of the charts here when originally released, it then went back in the charts to once again claim top spot when it was used in the final episode of Seinfeld a few years later.

ROGUE WAVE "out of the shadow" cd,2004.

debut set from these 'frisco guys....
pretty sure i picked this one up out of Corey's discount bin, never heard of them but i liked the cover,again...$2 or $3 i couldnt really go wrong with it...
im hearing bits of Death Cab For Cutie on this one, bits of folk also, and a very Kinks sounding track four(seasick on land)..
not a bad album, liking most of it,still dislike sevceral though. allmusic rate this one 2.7 or 9/10....really?, that makes it almost as good as the greatest albums of alltime, think not!
but still, not a bad album

Hey, these are my first posts Smile
I recently discovered Jesse Will, Singer-Songwriter from New Zealand. He's just getting started but reminds me of Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, I think hes got potential.

PORTISHEAD "portishead" cd,1997.

Wow!, i forgot a had another Portishead cd,thought "dummy" was the only one i had(guess that makes me a dummy then???)...
now it all comes back to me...Tem is a huge Portishead fan, told him i disliked "dummy" immensely three or so years ago, he recommended this one saying that fans either prefer the sounds of that one or this one...so as a 'dummy' i took him up on it and bought it to see if it would make me alter my opinion of these guys and gal!
alas, not really, still seems to be the same overbearing deep bass sounds here, and again, wouldnt call it real music, simply backing sounds and samples to go with the lyrical content.
i wouldnt even call the sounds emotive, brooding or even enhancing to the lyrics...just simply sounds.
but like that other dumb cd of theirs i still say i love Beth Gibbons' harrowing yet endearing and mournful vocals, but that alone is not enough for me to say i like this one, even though i certainly like a lot more tracks on here than on 'dummy',

DEVO "greatest hits" cd,1990

part electronic, part new wave outfit from Akron,Ohio...
these guys only ever had one UK hit(whip it #51) and two US hits (whip it #14, and a cover of the Lee Dorsey hit 'working in a coulmine' #43), but here in Australia they had four #1 hits (freedom of choice, girl u want, whip it, and 'gates of steel'), they also has another half dozen chart entries here also...i guess that means they were more popular here than anywhere else...
well, i like 'em but not love them, just simply cannot get into a lot of their material(just a bit too far 'out there' for me)...i always loved their kooky video's though, always entertaining in the early MTV days...apparently their hit "whip it" is up there in the most played videos on MTV...
i never realised till i did the Neil Young beginners guide that it was Devo who created the uptempo/grungy "hey hey my my" for Neil, they were in the studio nextdoor to NY when he was recording the acoustic version, invited him in to their studio and goofed around with that song for him with synths and guitars...he liked what he heard and re-did it electric himself for the 'rust never sleeps' album...
besides the Lee Dorsey cover on here is another one....an abysmal cover of The Stones "satisfaction"...one of the worst covers ever recorded by anyone IMO
all up though, not a bad album, but nowhere near as good as a best of set by anyone should score, makes me wonder just how low their studio albums would score???
