THE ROLLING STONES - 1962 - Present
I VOTE FOR THE ROLLING STONES to be inducted into the MD Hall of Fame!
This nomination is long overdue! What can I say about the Bad Boys of Rock! They're known in music circles as The Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World! Spanning a staggering recording/performing career of over 50 years this London based band of ruffians have released 29 studio albums, 17 live albums and 107 singles. I can remember the first time I heard I Can't Get No Satisfaction in 1965 ! ...what a great track ..even today! Tragedy struck the band in 1969 when one of their founding members guitarist Brian Jones died by drowning at the young age of 27. Mick Taylor became the new lead guitarist until Ronnie Wood of Faces fame joined the band.Bill Wyman on bass was also a founding member but resigned from the band in 1993. He was replaced by Darryl Jones.
In the glorious days of the sixties, The Beatles and Stones were it! Jockeying back and forth as the number one band in the world. Two contrasting styles of rock music but two tremendous bands! The Rolling Stones were credited with introducing the world to the great American bluesmen...Muddy Waters' song Rolling Stone ...is the song the band got its' name from. One of the reasons the Stones haven't released many studio albums in the past 30 years or so is due to the fact that their unique sound is deeply rooted in blues, rhythm and blues and soul..a genre very difficult to be original in these days! They adore millions of fans with their live tours performing mostly hits from the early days.
Mick Jagger, frontman, court jester and lead vocalist, Keith Richards ..rhythm lead guitar, Ronnie Wood ...slide, lead guitar and Charlie Watts on drums have been the mainstays of The Rolling Stones over the past 25 years or so. The band is now on a world tour again and just keep on tickin".
Here are a few clips of some of my favorite Rolling Stone songs in no particular order. I'm sure you all have your own favorites also!
