PROCOL HARUM "shine on brightly" cd, 1968

Procol's second album...
the cover on the left was the original UK cover(and cd cover),the one on the right was the original US cover...i think i prefer the US cover.
i dont know what to say here that is going to be positive???....
i guess i think that for the most part that this is boring dated material that was probably fine back in 1968 but isnt really relevant or interesting today, that saidi do find a couple of tracks quite interesting in the second and third parts of the five piece track "in held twas in i", the rest i can take or leave it...

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: in held twas in i:look to your soul
best track: in held twas in i:in the autumn of my madness

tracks:

1. quite rightly so *

Over to the new cd stack. Never got into these guys. This is the only thing I own, and the only
thing I want to own. Thought I should give them a shot and picked this up for $7 at Wal Mart.
Any Best Of set should come out with a better grade than this did. Only one track I love, and
four I don't like. Three of those are horrible covers, with the worst being Zeppelins Hey Hey
What Can I Do. Darius Rucker doing Robert Plant just doesn't work. Darius Rucker Has
transformed himself into a country artist now. That doesn't work either. Still haven't figured
out how they managed to pull that off. Anyway Hootie had a nice run from their first four
albums which most of these tracks are from. They only had one more album after that. Their
first two albums topped the chart, then they tailed off. Highest charting single was a #6 with
Only Wanna Be With You. This album topped out at #62.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Jerome Wrote:Oooooh, now that's a favourite of mine when I want to listen to something that's completely off the wall. Probably the most striking album cover design as well. Designed by one Mr Geiger (Did some famous sci-fi movie sets as well - can't remember which).
By the way MH - their 'Black Moon' album is fantastic and incorporates all their best elements without being too 'out there'.

It's far more commercial than their previous stuff but very good nonetheless.

BUDDY GUY "skin deep" cd,2008

another of my purchaese last year....
got this one after i saw a spritely 76yo buddy perform at one of our festivals last summer...
man this guy can rock...Clapton describes him as 'the greatest blues player ever', thats a big deal coming from him!
this one was recorded when Buddy was a much younger 72....
im not really into 'the blues' much but this guy pushes all the right buttons for me, i love him!
best track here for me is the only non blues sounding track on the album, but best of track could have been one of about four or five(with two others of those great ones posted also)...
love this one as much as the other one i own,and he was 75 when he recorded that one also...
just one thought keeps going over in my head when i hear any old guy still rocking...who the heck is going to be doing that out of the current bunch of bands out there now?
unfortunately for me i really cant think of any except maybe Jack White in one form or another
great album by one of rock musics most influential yet underrated talents!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: i found happiness
best track: skin deep

tracks:

1. best damn fool **
2. too many tears **
3. lyin' like my dog ***
4. show me the money ***
5. everytime i sing the blues ***
