The influence of sgt. Pepper"s lonely hearts cub band ?

Nice comment, J ! Other than the George Martin Effect, these guys could write great songs and play kickass rock !!!!! IMHO ! They had consistency, churning out one classic song after another...who else did that ???? I don't want to belabour the point, but songs like - In My Life, She's Leaving Home, Yesterday, A Day in a Life, Blackbird, Hey Jude, Let It Be, For No One, Eleanor Rigby,...represent a classic song that will last in the future decades. I don't think the repertoire of The Stones for example and the other major bands will endure the ages ! The Beatle influence is global and everyone knows a good Beatle tune at a kitchen party or at a beach bonfire !

There's a 10 year gap in our ages....I was 11 when the Fab Four emerged..so you were a year old ! ....You love Oldfield, Vangelis and Jarre the way I love the Beatles ! We both have excellent taste in music and you actually make it !!!!
Jerome Wrote:Just going to add my sixpence too. I am sure hearing Sgt Pepper's way back when must have had some influence on me but it's not an album I enjoy - or own. In fact I do not own a single Beatles album (yes you can shoot me in the morning folks). And I am not a Stones fan either, although I do like individual tracks by both bands. I don't think that statement about the synthesizer is right, as they had been around for decades before then. All the other info seems spot on though. One thing I will say is that as a producer George Martin was the perfect guy for the band. I have a number of books where his work is mentioned and a large part of what made up the Beatles more ambitious projects was down to his innovation.

The Flaming Lips are doing a re-imagining of Sgt. Peppers as a benefit album, with a host of current artists. Here's more on that: http://www.music-news.com/ShowNews.asp?nItemID=83241

What songs were they rapping on DJ ? Welcome aboard the Great MD!
D.j. Dee Dame Wrote:I just heard this album for the first time recently and was blown away by it. What really caught my attention was they seemed to be "rapping" on at least two songs a good 8 years before rap music started in the Bronx.
