Boston native who fronted two unknown groups before going solo in '92. This is her second solo effort and the only thing I have. Don't even know why I have it as I do not recall anything that inspired me. Sort of a grungy Go-Go's sound to me, with a few punk/poppy tunes but more rock overall. I jokingly gave a clue to this artist in my "H" cd's thread referencing the Hatfields and McCoys legend. Turns out she is actually a descendent of that Hatfield family. Juliana claims the band X as one of her early influences and that comes through on a few tracks also. That band was too hardcore for me. What A Life and Universal Heart-Beat were singles from here, the latter making it to #84. The album peaked at #96. i think Nickelback are a much better band live than on cd...
i have ALL their studio albums(not sure why) but i only like about half the tracks on the albums, but live....they are totally awesome IMO saw them about 12months ago here in Perth, they were brilliant, almost bordering on Heavy Metal at times, and Chadd Kroeger can really 'rock it' live!

Multiple award nominations, Billboard, Rolling Stone and MTV all gave them high marks for the year, so allmusic is off base I think. Must be some bias there for some reason. Has to be one of the best debut albums of 2012. Yes it just misses a love score from me, only because of that last track. I list that as a track even though the album combines those last 2 as one track. Don't understand that as there is a definite seperation between those 2. The band was formed in Utah and moved to Las Vegas to get more exposure I assume, Utah not being a mecca for rock and roll. A string of ep's preceded this major label debut which thusfar has seen 3 top 10 singles and the album debuting at #2 here. Also reachig #2 in the UK, #3 in Canada, and #4 in Australia. Six of the tracks were on those previous ep's so overall recording took place over a three year period. That doesn't impact the continuity for me. Intelligent lyrics and many instruments used throughout. Allmusic missed the boat on this fantastic album. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Rocks Best Track - Demons Track Listing 1. Artist Recording History
studio albums - 11 compilation albums - 3 live albums - 2 singles - 37 from my library (cd) Didn't score as well as I thought it would. Oh well, things change. Still a good album. Looks like it's his second best selling, after Heart Shaped World. Did better in Australia than it did here, as most of his have. Signed by major label Warner for his first album, doesn't say how he was discovered. Had to be a connection somewhere as he is a California native. Two songs from that first album were used in the David Lynch film, Blue Velvet which got some attention. It wasn't till his third album, Heart Shaped World yielded the breakout hit Wicked Game, that he got the national fame. We are up to album #5 with this one. Again a song was picked up for a film, Baby Did A Bad Bad Thig for Stanley Kubricks Eyes Wide Shut. I don't care for that one. Didn't know Chris had a comedy show on Showtime for a few years. Probably best I never saw it. Three singles from here of which only my favorite of Somebody's Crying hit the main chart here at #45, with the album peaking at #31. from memory his best of set only scored around 1.9 from me when i posted it a while ago...
i know at least half these tracks, Somebody's Crying is the best one on here... surprised you didnt like track #1...i like it,well not the stupid lyrics but i love the music on that one...never was "eyes wide shut" as i dont care for Tom Cruise. you are correct in saying he's more popular here than there though...saw him live a few years ago, he puts on a good show.
