back to the Music Head "crowded house" post...

you mentioned that the album "woodface" is #3 on the so-called list of "100 greatest australian albums" list...
ive never seen the list or the book(if there is one), but at work today i was thinking 'what albums could possibly be at #1 and #2 on that list....'
ive come up with three posibilities that i would expect to see high on that list...
AC/DC "back in black"
Cold Chisel "east"
John Farnham "whispering jack"...

now my curiousity has got the better of me...
im going to seek out that list and thread it...LOL!

Hi SteveO,
I'm not just a prog rock fan, although it plays a big part, i like alot of electronic music, such as Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk,David Wright,Code Indigo etc, plus many other styles,it depends on the mood of the day,i may have an all female vocal day, a jazz day and even a classical day, all style can blow my bubbles.

PETER GABRIEL "peter gabriel" aka "3" aka "melt" cd,1980

album chart action: #1 UK, #7 CAN, #22 US, #29 AU

singles chart action:
"games without frontiers".......#4 UK, #7 CAN, #44 AU, #48 US
"no self control"....................#33 UK
"biko"..................................#38 UK
"i dont remember".................# 107 US.

this is the first of my xmas gift card purchase posts...
ive already listened to this one three times now in my car whilst driving around...
Gabriel's sound has certainly grown on me a lot since i bought this one(thanks to Jerome's recommendations!)
this guy is "out there" at times and quite eclectic musically...
im hearing lots of different instruments on this album that one wouldnt normally hear on a rock album....great refreshing stuff IMO.
the album is pretty hard for me to describe other than what ive written above, the simplist thing to say is that "its peter gabriel"...that sums it up!
lots of guest artists on here from former partner in crime Phil Collins thru Kate Bush and Steve Lillywhite, strange to see in the linear notes that one Paul Weller turned up to play guitar on track #6...i checked out my PW biography, and yes, its the same Weller!, Gabriel must have liked what he does on guitar becasue the track sat around four months for The Jam to finish a European tour for Weller's bit!.
best track here for me is "biko", about the death in custody of anti-aparthied activist Stephen Biko in South Africa in 1977...love the african drums, chants etc on this one, its almost eerie, haunting and forelorn, with out a doubt one of the greatest songs ever written and put to music perfectly!
loving half the songs on here, dislike two...the first one is an instrumental(start) and the second one(lead a normal life), i simply dont like it!
apart from that, a very, very good album which "allmusic.com" describes as Gabriel's "greatest album by a longshot" and they give it a perfect 5/5 in their scoring!
me, im getting there, i almost love this album, looking foreward to "4" coming out from the pile now!

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

JOAN ARMATRADING "the very best of..." cd,1991.

album chart stats: #9 UK, #85 AU.

career stats:
studio albums: 18
singles: 27

highest sharting singles:

UK: "love and affection" #10
AU: "drop the pilot" #6
US: "drop the pilot" #78

another of those xmas gift card purchases...
this one is of an artist i previously owned nothing by, but should have!
Joan was born in British colony St.Kitts and was bought up in the UK...i was unaware she was English, just assumed she was American for some reason...
anyway,
this album contains fourteen tracks, eleven of which come from her 'classic' years(73-83)..
her songs range from pop, rock, funk, even the odd jazz-tinged feel here and there..
a quality writer who is often forgotten by music lovers(including me,im sad to say!)
nothing on here i do not like, with half the tracks i love...
i had totally forgotten that "rosie" and "all the way from america" were here songs with the former title my favourite on here...
all up, a brilliant best of hits package!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: down to zero
best track: rosie

tracks:

1. love and affection **
2. down to zero **
3. drop the pilot ***
4. show some emotion **
