halfway through the xmas gift card purchase pile now...
this is the debut album from the Dragons...
some good alternative sounds here,Band Of Horses/Kings Of Leon fans would love this stuff...
album has sold around 12million copies worldwide, had five charting hits off it so far...these guys have made their money, they could retire now!
lots of pretty good meloides happening here but the album falls a bit flat in the middle section for me with two tracks i dont like coming up in a row.
we all know the radio freindly hit "radioactive", well that track sums up the styles on the album...i used to love that track but radio overkilled it for me.
strange thing is, when Music Head posted this one his album had twelve tracks, not sure why but my copy has thirteen of them.
he scored this album slightly higher than i have but the result is close enough as to not worry about it too much.
all up not a bad album and im already looking foreward to some follow up material from these guys!

this album stats: #87 US, #27 AU, #48 UK

another xmas giftcard purchase, but i didnt get this one until a couple of weeks ago...
someone on this site posted something about this album a few days prior to me buying it...
i was intrigued by the album cover(so was Jerome from memory???!)...
i went out and checked these guys out on youtube, i liked the couple of songs i heard and bought the album
now,
this band is essentially a sideproject for Justin Vernan who is the principle writer/singer for Bon Iver...
this album has a similar alt folk sound to it also...
a couple of the opening tracks are a bit wishy-washy for my liking but overall this isnt too bad an album which gets better as it plays out

DAVID BOWIE "the next day" cd, 2013

xmas gift card purchase...
when this album first came out last year and i posted it on the site i was scathing of it, absolutely hated it, even thought the lame album cover(a re-do of "heroes") was the best thing about it...times have changed, i now like this album, but i still hate the the album cover.
i listened to this one online several times over 2013 after my initial listen and it has grown on me steadily.
dont expcet any great classic Bowie riffs on here(jean genie),real catchy songs(china girl), weird songs/videos(ashes to ashes) or even a themed Bowie(ziggy), its not there.
this is a man recording quite run of the mill songs here, nothing really out there at all.
he seems content with his life and where he is at and the songs reflect that.
there are now three tracks on this one i love and only a couple i dont like, when initially there were only a couple i thought i liked...
this album is better than the current/latest releases from some of the guys on or about his age.
all up, its pretty good and worth a re-listen if you heard it and didnt like it!

Their 2nd album, #37 US, #90 Canada
Singles - The House That Heaven Built

Canadian band, listed as 2 members but they sure create some noise. Of course you never know what's going on in the studio. Formed in 2006,
debut album in 2009 (Post Nothing), which got little recognition. This is the follow up album from 2012 which received widespread critical
acclaim getting Spin magazines Band Of The Year vote. Band adds some punk elements into their classic rock sound for me. The album started out a
little light weight, but got heavier as it went along. By the end I was into it with the closer Continuous Thunder, even though it barely misses
a love, the song and the album. Favorite looks like it was released as a single. I remember seeing the band on one of the late nights last year.
That's where I first heard the band. Shout out to my friend SteveO for recommending the band also. It will probably be awhile before we get the
next album. One to look forward to. I would have expected this album to do better in Canada than here but that didn't happen.

I had forgotten what perfection was. At least until they went and screwed with it by giving me 3 bonus tracks with this 2004 re-release. It was
fine the way it was meant to be, thank you. I don't give Sir Elton much exposure here. In my top 10 artists of all time list for sure. This is
Eltons second album but I consider it his first. That Empty Sky thing was practice for this gem. Not a song on the original release I don't
love. The bonus tracks are said to be from the same sessions, but I have my doubts. Just a whole different vibe going on with those, on the
negative side. Caleb Quaye is the only player on this album that I know. All others were session people. Then we have Paul Buckmaster taking
care of that orchestra stuff and the legenday Gus Dudgeon producing. It doesn't get any better than this original album for me.

A masterpiece of an album - but I like Empty Sky as well. Horses for courses and all that stuff. Have you heard his live versions of Sixty Years On & I Need You To Turn To from his 'Live in Australia' album? Simply superb.

Funny Music pal, yesterday I was looking at Elton's discography and realised that I really hadn't listened to Elton John eponymous or Empty Sky debut album!!!! Now I wil listen to Elton John and then Empty Sky as recommended by Jerome!
